Lakewood, NJ (pictured on the right), and now we are happy to update our readers that the location will not disappear for good. Uncle Mike's restaurant will be opening in place of 1880 Deli sometime in January. Many know owner Mike Mandel from his previous restaurant of the same name which was also in Lakewood.

Chef Colaneri from Sushi Metsuyan Wins 2013 Kosherfest Culinary Competition
0 COMMENTS

Casey Colaneri from Sushi Metsuyan of Monsey became the winner of the 6th Annual Kosherfest Culinary Iron Chef Competition. Watch the video below for all the highlights and click here to see Casey describing his winning dish.

The room was packed and the tension was palpable as 3 professional chefs, David Teyf from Lox Cafe NYC and Passover 2014 Legendary Destinations, Jose Soto from Basil NY in Brooklyn, and Casey Colaneri from Sushi Metsuyan of Monsey competed for the $1000 prize and bragging rights of the 2013 Culinary Competition Winner, organized by The Center for Kosher Culinary Arts

The chefs had 30 minutes to create a delicious dish from 15 mystery ingredients and to impress
the judges - Philippe Kaemmerle (Chef Instructor from The Center for Kosher Culinary Arts),
Jack Silberstein (co-owner of Jack's Gourmet Sausages), and Roberta Scher (Co-founder and Managing Editor of KosherEye.com). The ingredients included rib eye steak, beef patties, wild mushrooms, pasta and a variety of vegetables. The task before the judges was not an easy one as all 3 competing entrees looked and smelled amazing, and for the simple folks from the audience it was hard to resist the jealousy they are not the one tasting them. David Teyf wowed the audience with his fire-blasting torch to brown the meat, while Jose Soto impressed everyone with his calm, self-possessed demeanor, and Casey Colaneri with his chatty and friendly personality. Jamie Geller, the famous cookbook author and founder of Joy of Kosher magazine kept the audience engaged at this TV-quality show. Everyone had a great time and this proved once again how kosher cooking has grown by leap and bounds.

Behind-the-Scenes with Abigael's at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn
0 COMMENTS
A few days ago, we visited the Barclays Center with VIP, behind-the-scenes access, where Abigael's on Broadway has taken over the basketball arena. All the restaurant and stadium favorites are available at their concession (which at times the line stretches far and wide). They also are the exclusive caterer for kosher in all the suites, 40/40 club and a full buffet in the Calvin Klein Room. Upscale kosher food has now taken watching a basketball game to a whole new level.

Carlos & Gabby's opening in Miami

Carlos & Gabby's, a popular restaurant chain with locations in Brooklyn, Queens, Five Towns and Riverdale is heading down south. In February 2014, they will be opening another restaurant at 740 - 41st Street on Miami Beach's kosher restaurant row. They will be in the former space of Sam's Deli (pictured here). Even though kosher Mexican is not unheard of in Florida, Carlos & Gabby's, which is known for their delicious and extensive menu at reasonable prices, will be well-equipped to face the competition at this prime location. But that's not all, stay tuned for more surprises from Carlos & Gabby's.

We have learned that "House of Dog: Dogs n Beer" is opening another location for this popular all-American spot, where they take the kosher hot dog experience to a whole new level with over a dozen varieties of sausages, and over 50 hard to find craft beers.
According to the plan, the newest location at 21077 Powerline Road in Boca Raton, FL (see photo), will open before the end of the year.
Stay tuned for more exciting news regarding HOD and plans for several more locations. We wish owner Baruch Sandhaus much success and Ha'tzlacha.
