Fans on the wall and green plants along the dining area surround you in Shanghai Diamond Garden, a traditional and original Chinese American restaurant. With a fully stocked liquor bar in the center, a massive sushi bar to the side and sporting three large and elegant dining rooms, Shanghai Diamond is an extremely spacious and well run establishment. The restaurant’s popularity has the owners feeling a sense of pride. Being the only full service Chinese kosher restaurant in the Pico-Robertson area, Shanghai has welcomed its Chinese and sushi-loving patrons, ever since their November 2004 opening. In an always busy but inviting atmosphere, you will find some of Hollywood regulars dining here at their favorite spot, like Saturday Night Live star comedian, Jon Lovitz. Reviewers online write how much they enjoy Shanghai’s vegetarian dishes and the fact that they can sit at the bar and have a drink with their sushi.
Zagat Survey writes: “This Century City glatt kosher Asian restaurant is attracting crowds of Modern Jews...” These modern crowd adores Shanghai’s Mongolian Beef (stir-fried slicked London broil, scallions, and onion in a Mongolian Sauce) and Orange Chicken (tender chunks of crispy chicken sautéed with orange flavored sauce). The word has definitely spread about the affordable prices, large portions, friendly service and delicious cuisine here. A post on this magazine’s message board from N. Neuman states: “Living next to Los Angeles, I never get a chance to check out all of the restaurants because I can't stop myself from going back to Shanghai. I’m impressed every time I return. A definite winner.” A regular sight of bus-loads of Chinese tourists is another sign that the restaurant is as authentic as can be. They come for their Kung Pao Beef (chicken stir-fried with peanuts, onion, dried chili peppers) and sushi lunch specials. Feel free to order online for pick up or delivery.

Edie Birken- 02/04/06 I tried several times on Friday to contact the restaurant to request reservations for a party of ten for Sunday, Feb. 5 at 12 noon. Preferably a round table. The phone rang incessantly with no one answering. Very frustrating..........and this started at 11 am, again at 12 noon, and again midafternoon. No one answers your phone.
That's not a good business practice.
Reply #1 submitted by: Arash Hashemi on 02/07/06 That is because they are closed on Fridays.
