ABOUT MexiKosher LA

Mexikosher is the first authentic Mexican Kosher Cuisine in L.A. and possibly the first in the United States. Head Chef Katsuji Tanabe brings his passion for food into his establishment. With the unique background of Japanese and Mexican descent hailing from Mexico City, Mexico, it’s to no surprise that the creations executive Tanabe puts forth are truly remarkable. As Tanabi likes to put it, Mexikosher is “a great little Mexican restaurant that happens to be kosher.” Chef Tanabi has become well known from his past experience at Bastide, Mastro’s Steakhouse, kosher steakhouse Shilo’s, and his tv debuts on Top Chef and Chopped!

The “Carnitas”, Tanabe's favorite thing on the menu, are made from brisket braised in duck fat with a cream made from soy which compliments the dish well. Expect your order to come piled high with a heap of the carnitas, Spanish for “little meats”, on the cutting board chopped into soft, dripping bits topped off with pickled onions, cilantro and pico de gallo. His popular burger is made from brisket, chuck short rib and beef-bacon. The chicken wings, glazed and sweet with just a bit of spice, are worth getting your hands dirty. The beef-bacon is just like regular bacon, but he cures and smokes it himself, then he pours an onion-marmalade in duck fat over night. The burger which is only served on Monday nights is a popular order so get ready to wait on a line. It’ll be worth the wait.

Apropo to Mexican cuisine, there are over 10 different salsas on the menu graded according to their spice level. The place, has a dozen sauces you can use to spice up your taco, burrito, rice bowl or salad. The sweet-hot chipotle is especially a winner.

You might be surprised to know that Katsuji is proud to serve his community with the Jewish Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Los Angeles as a mentor to teach kids about eating and cooking healthfully.
