Hankering for some homemade sausage and pastrami? You’ve found your spot at the NY Brat Factory. This sausage mecca recently opened in May of 2016 and is situated in a vibrant section of the Upper West Side, near the 103rd and Broadway subway stop. Funny thing about the name - it’s called Brat Factory because, well, it’s an actual Brat Factory! Bratwurst, that is. And its lovable cousin, pastrami. The truth is, it is so much more than just a sausage factory. This is a complete deli, elevated with craftsmanship.
Its small and homey setting lends itself well to relishing a quick and savory bite or picking up a feast of all things deli. Seating is somewhat limited as their focus is take-out, delivery, and catering, but they do provide a lovely view to people watch as you sit on one of the 8 or 9 seats positioned along a large window. The gorgeously rustic décor matches the natural, pure flavors found in their food. NY Brat Factory fills a niche in the Kosher NYC food scene and fulfills a long-time dream of two entrepeneurs, creating and serving authentic, fresh sausage and pastrami to kosher eaters in the New York region.
The restaurant is under the leadership of Chef David Shamah who has worked in the foodservice industry for over 30 years. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, David gained experience working in some of New York City’s finest hotels and restaurants including the Plaza Hotel and has launched and managed several others. He has an extensive background in catering, too. His style is modern/eclectic with a strong emphasis on flavor. He believes in letting the flavor and beauty of food speak for themselves. One of his greatest influences is Rose Levy Beranbaum, the award-winning cookbook author who’s been a mentor to him since his teenage years.
