La Cambio, translated from Italian as “the change,” is an Italiano gourmet restaurant that delivers a truly unique experience with a combination of Italian food and a 1920’s “Great Gatsby” ambiance. Living up to it’sname, La Cambio produces original dishes that enhance the Brooklyn scene located on Coney Island Ave, between Avenue M and Avenue O. The widely acclaimed Star Chef Jose Soto, having been in some of the finest New York City restaurants and former chef of Basil in Crown Heights, carries his talents over to the upscale dairy restaurant. Taking pride in freshness, quality and flavor, Chef Jose Soto has a respect for ingredients in all that he creates. Not to mention the rest of the highly attentive staff, along with the owner Ruby Buckris who is always on site.
Every dish on the menu is carefully curated to an art. Unlike the flamboyance of the “roaring 20’s,” the menu is not overly crowded but rather concise and clean. The menu is built to a variety that caters for dinners and lunches opening in the afternoon hours. The appetizers consist of a Baked Bread served with a House made, flavored butter and olives, Special La Cambio Savory Fries tossed with Parmesan and House made black truffle, and Roasted Beets. The pastas and pizza dough are freshly made providing a combination of flavors with notably the best Potato Gnocchi in town sided with egg, capers, and sweet potato chips. The Cinque for Maggio Pizza is to die for with Raclette, Ricotta, Cheddar, Camembert, and Feta cheese melted and garnished with oregano on top. Not to mention, the delicious Pappardelle with Roasted Garlic, Leek, and Smoked Salmon. To finish off a meal to remember, don’t forget dessert, a spectator affair with the Coffee Zabaglione and Roasted Pear to name a few.
