INDUSTRY NEWS
Ben & Jerry's will no longer boycott Israel, its parent company Unilever announced on Wednesday, after reaching a settlement with the ice cream company's Israeli licensee. Last July, the Vermont-based ice cream company announced that it would no longer allow its products to be sold in the West Bank. However, because of local laws against location-based discrimination that would not have allowed Avi Zinger, the Israeli licensee, to limit his sales to one side of the Green Line, the boycott would have effected all of Israel. So this is something we've covered and discussed but huge props to Rabbi Shlomo Farhi to bringing it to the forefront again and demanding change. Click here to see Rabbi Farhi post; it's going viral. I spoke to the Rabbi l, and I told him he has our full support. He told me someone with Uber connections has escalated it up the food chain but the only way there is change is if it affects their bottom line. They need to know that lots of customers care. And I agree although it's not as simple as we hope. They rely on keywords and algorithms and saying a restaurant has a kosher pickle, may come up when searching. I do believe the customer must do their due diligence in making sure the restaurant they are ordering from is indeed kosher and to whatever standards you as an individual hold. But they can do better and we can do better. Discuss but with respect please. Thanks.
