December Openings, Closings, Events, and News

If you didn't know already, Patis Bakery will be opening another location on the UWS very soon, moving in with the Chabad of the West Side. We broke the news a little over a year ago of Chabad taking the space and we're happy things are about to be finished. The Chabad is the tenant of the location (former location of Sunflower Cafe) and the plan has been to make half the space a Beit Midrash with learning and daily davening (which has been going on for months) and the other half will be Patis Bakery. This is a great addition to the block and the hope is that Patis opened last week. Located at 676 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY (off West 93rd Street). Click here to weigh in.
Bravo Pizza is opening a location on 5th Avenue and 35th Street. It's confirmed; this location will replace their existing one on 37th and Broadway. Stay tuned for more information, and click here to weigh in.
You got yourself your Middle Eastern restaurant back. Once named Nargila Grill, the restaurant has been renamed YORK CAFE and under new ownership. They are now under the supervision of the Orthodox Union. Located at: 1599 York Ave New York, NY. #(929) 203-0739. Click here to weigh in.
The pastrami sandwich lives on. All the experts and insiders who knew better, let me just officially say that the Midtown restaurant has gotten an extension on their lease and they are open, will be open, at least for the next number of months with the hopes that after 100 years of Kosher, they ain't going anywhere. Don't be so quick to write them off. Click here to weigh in. Located at 1372 Broadway (Between W 37th & 38th Streets) New York, NY. #(212) 921-2152.
On December 21, 2022, the 4th night of Chanukah, the Turkish Consul General in New York Reyhan Özgür, and Asaf Zamir, Consul General of Israel in New York, among distinguished members of the New York metropolitan Turkish-Jewish community, gathered to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. This Chanukah celebration is historic in the sense that for the first time menorah candles were lit in Turkish House. The event was highlighted by the lighting of a Chanukkiah that was salvaged from the destruction of Prague during the holocaust and lent by Thomas Gelb for the event. The event featured traditional Turkish food including kofte and chicken shish, together with the traditional Chanukah latkes, all made by the chefs at Bridge Turkish and Mediterranean Grill, the only glatt kosher Turkish restaurant in the US. The anticipated attendance was 130 people; at 3pm the day of the event that was scheduled for 6:30, the Bridge received a call from the Associate Counsel General that they expected an additional 50 people. In fact, well over 200 people attended this event. The Bridge provided ample food for all the attendees, even with such short notice. All thoroughly enjoyed the kosher-Turkish cuisine. For further information you can contact Sam or Michael at Bridge Turkish and Mediterranean Grill, 315 Raritan Avenue, Highland Park, NJ, phone 732-418-9000. Click here to weigh in.

The restaurant is no longer under their current supervision and has changed to Rabbi Yehuda El. There is no mashigiach on the premises. I can not tell you if you should or should not go, please ask your local Rabbi. I would personally not go unless there is a supervising agency. They were originally under KLM Kashrus and then changed to Rabbi Navarro in November. As of Sunday, December 20th, the owner decided to stop the supervision because of the extra costs. I will continue to speak to the owner to see if we can help him acquire a Rabbinical supervision agency. They are located at: 6214 Avenue U, Brooklyn, NY. On a side note, with Main House closing and this development, Mill Basin has been taking it on the chin lately. Click here to weigh in.
Marine Park is getting a new pizza shop; say hello to CENTO UNO PIZZERIA. Funny story: The owner, who has vast experience in the restaurant industry, has been looking to open a pizza place and was going to call it Cento Uno, translated into 101 in Italian, a mystical number for Sephardim. When he came down to see this location, he noticed the address was 3101 Quentin Road. He took that as a good sign. They are in the middle of renovation, but hope to open in a few weeks. Click here to check out a video of my time there.
Only Kosher Restaurant in fast growing Florida town. Owners want more schedule flexibility. It's a great beach location with a walk in cooler, hood, and a beer and wine license which can easily be upgraded to hard liquor as well. The parking lot is 600 feet from the beach. Lots of tourists. $3,500/month is lease. Lease terms flexible. Great landlord. Owner has received offers but willing to accept a lot less in order to keep the restaurant kosher. Restaurant is in need of someone that can commit to operating a sensational place. If someone wants to make a Middle-eastern Grill and it is done right, there is a great opportunity for non-Jewish business. Owner willing to take 3 payments of $25,000 for $75,000 total. This almost half of what owner was offered. For serious inquiries email Shaya@Talmudico.com. This will be sold before the end of the year.
This is a restaurant I would hate to see close. It's the only Glatt Kosher Indian restaurant we have in North America and the food is delicious. But it needs an owner who will be there full time. Current owner owns a different restaurant and is selling this one for $150,000. Rent is $3400 and is conveniently located in North Miami area, minutes from Surfside and Sunny Isles. Now would be the perfect time to buy it as the season approaches. Current owner will help you get started and find you staff. Please message me if interested, serious inquiries only. The restaurant is currently open and should be supported. Click here to weigh in. Located at: 2218 NE 123rd St, North Miami, FL.

We only had a short time together on this weekend holiday trip but it was packed with lots of great highlights. Seeing my brother's and sister's families of course, going to a Lions game but from a restaurant standpoint, it was great to see and taste from the new kid on the Detroit block. Ess In, which was originally called Fress In, until a few people from the community "asked" her to change it, is a fried chicken and sandwich joint but as you can see, they have so much more. For more information, and some picture images of our meal, click here. For a video, click here. Located at: 25900 Greenfield Rd, Oak Park, MI. #(248) 850-8177.
