April Restaurant Openings and Updates

BROOKLYN

Cafe Hadar Undergoing Renovations
When Cafe Hadar failed to reopen after Pesach many feared the worst. Luckily, they are just undergoing renovations and should re-open fully sometime later this week. In the meantime, they are still cooking and offering curbside delivery. Click here to see pictures of the renovation from one of our Foodie members.

Corner Cafe Expansion Completed
Corner Cafe on Ditmas Avenue in Boro Park has completed their expansion to almost double the size of their original space. One of our foodies sent us a shot of the renovations, see right.

Grind, the New Hipster Coffee Shop on the Block
Harry Ashkenazi, former owner of Circa, had an epiphany one day after shlepping to Park Slope for his favorite cup of joe. He realized that there were no quality coffee shops in his neighborhood, so he set out to create one. Grind, with its chic re-purposed bowling alley counter tops and balcony seating, is an urban, rustic oasis in the heart of Midwood. Starting soon, they will be serving high quality coffee (draft cold brew, drip style, lattes, etc.) as well as pastries and freshly prepared food. Stay tuned for more details. Grind is located on the corner of East 2nd and Avenue P.
Opening first or second week of May.

Hadar Geula Gets a New Name and a New Look
HGrill is Hadar Geulah's newly renovated take out and grill. Renovations are almost done and they are going to have a grand opening very soon!
HGrill is located on 59th St. and 18th Avenue in Boro Park.

Israeli-Themed Mamilla Replaces Tea for Two Lite
After much speculation about a new "Mamilla" sign being put up at the former Tea for Two Lite location, we learned that T42L will be no longer, ushering in a new start for this dairy Marine Park restaurant. It's still the same owner but this time he has teamed up with Israeli Chef Rafael Refaeli of Kapulisky and Fransesca. They are now serving breakfast with an Israeli style fare and a heavy Jerusalem influence with more family-friendly prices. Click here for menu and pictures.

Nori Bar, New Sushi Lounge Opens in Boro Park
If you want a place to lounge out and eat sushi in Boro Park, you're in luck! A new sushi lounge called Nori Bar is opening today at 5401 13th Ave. If you are not in the mood to chill or just want to stay home and eat sushi, they are offering free delivery. For orders, Nori Bar can be reached at (347)853-8888 or online at noribar.com.

Wrap 'N Roll Adds Another Sushi Option to the Brooklyn Market
A new Sushi/Sandwich shop called Wrap 'N Roll is now open. Offering quick bites, wraps, sushi and more. They are located on Quentin Road next door to the Midwood standby Amazon Cafe. Wrap 'N Roll opened their doors for business just before Pesach. They are located at 1119 Quentin Road, right off Kings Highway.

MANHATTAN

Le Churro No Longer Kosher
The Upper East Side cafe, Le Churro, has lost their hashgacha. When GKRM called to find out why they no longer have their hashgacha, they explained that there was an issue with the shredded Mozzarella Cheese they were using.

RIVERDALE

New Sign for Kosher Asian Cusine Spotted on Riverdale Avenue
Asian Restaurant "Kai Fan" opening soon in former location of Ginger Grill. Looks like the restaurant is under renovation. h/t Chaim L.

GREAT NECK

Lamed Vav Closes Down
After switching Hashgachas a few months ago, it seems that Lamed Vav will no longer be a Kosher establishment. They have closed their doors and the sign out front has been replaced. The new venture will not be under Kosher supervision. We are sad to see them go.

MONSEY

Fireside to Open in Monsey
In a few weeks Monsey will be getting a new restaurant called Fireside. Fireside is a bi-level, modern space suitable for couples and families alike with its inviting fireplace setting. The menu will be very approachable but still special. The owner, Meir Hirschhorn, has collaborated with the people at Evergreen to create this new venture. Fireside is located in the Evergreen shopping center. It has two floors which will be great for parties and accomodating for many people. More details coming soon, including a surprise chef.

NEW JERSEY

Manalapan, NJ Gets Another Restaurant
A new restaurant named Donny's Kosher Deli has opened in Manalapan, NJ. Donny's is a Farm to Table Middle Eastern inspired restaurant. They will be using fresh, seasonal ingredients for their menu. Donny's is located at 339 Route 9 South, Manalapan, NJ 07726

FLORIDA

Harbour Grill Deli Opening Soon
The owners of the Surfside restaurant were going to open up a deli behind 41st Street a few months ago, but change of plans, as they will be opening a deli two doors down from their flagship restaurant, located at 9427 Harding Avenue. They are currently in the process of getting permits for renovations. But ironically as of now, they are providing housemade artisanal deli meats to the newly opened 41st Street Deli owned by Michelle Green. More information coming soon.

HOUSTON, TX

Genesis Steakhouse and Wine Bar Open in Houston
A new steakhouse in Texas may seem cliche, but when it is a Kosher steakhouse there are few and far between when it comes to that region. The Goldstein family, with their background in catering and restaurants, saved up to open this new, gorgeous steakhouse in an area where there are not many Kosher meat options. Genesis is under the supervision of the Houston Kashrus Association and Mehadrin Kashrus of Texas. Genesis is located in the heart of Bellaire on 5427 Bissonet Street, Suite 400 Houston, Texas 77081.

CALIFORNIA

The Grille's Unfortunate Closing
San Diego's 'The Grille' has unfortunately closed down earlier this week. The food was good but there just wasn't enough local business to support the place and while tourists kept him going, the time came to close up shop. Meanwhile, if anyone is looking for a working partner in L.A. or around the country, Benny Behar is a hardworking chef and partner and would be an asset to any restaurant.
