Great news for the residents and surrounding areas of Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn! The owners of Cherry Hill Gourmet Market on Ocean Avenue are opening a gourmet kosher market in the site of the former Richard Yee's Restaurant at 2617 Avenue U. The location has sat empty since Yee's closed in 2008 so we're happy to see that a kosher establishment is taking its place. The inside of the restaurant is finally being gutted and the outside black paneling has been removed. Cherry Hill manager, Sam Nitka, explained to Sheepshead Bites that "[Cherry Hill] will financially support it, and we believe there's a demand for it in the neighborhood."
The currently unnamed store, which is expected to open in June or July 2015, will be Sabbath observant and will sell kosher certified meats, packaged groceries, organic vegetables and more! The new market will also take over the former site of Shulman's Picture Framing on the corner and will likely have a small parking lot behind the property.
We'll keep you updated as we find out more about the opening.
