Restaurant Openings, Closings & Updates (10/28/15)

Our Facebook group members reported seeing the windows of the restaurant covered in white signs earlier this week. The restaurant did not answer their phone for comment, but after calling their Queens location, we discovered that the Cafe Muscat Manhattan location will no longer be open for business. Word is it was due to partnership issues. This is after being open for just less than half a year. For anyone who purchased a Groupon or Living Social coupon to the New York location, you can redeem them at their Queens location at 178-07 Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows, NY. For refunds, contact the deal company.
For those who work near the Empire State Building in Midtown, Circa NY was one of the popular options for lunch. A few weeks ago their pizza oven was shut off due to a gas issue and they were no longer serving pizza. Sadly it was announced on Circa's Facebook page last week that they will be closing completely due to a "dramatic rent hike". End of an era.
Coffee Berry Opening November 1st
A new dairy cafe called Coffee Berry is scheduled to open early next week on November 1st. Located on the Upper West Side, Coffee Berry will be a causal restaurant serving salads, sandwiches, waffles and more. They will be under the supervision of the Vaad of Queens. Coffee Berry is located at 90th and Amsterdam. After 3 dairy cafe closures this week, we wish Coffee Berry the best of luck!
The Roast Soft Opening in Harlem
The highly anticipated Southern style chicken restaurant opened for business a couple of weeks ago. They are currently in a soft opening phase serving Fried & Rotisserie Chicken along with twists on Southern sides like their French Beans, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and Jalapeno Cornbread. The grand opening will happen soon, along with the unveiling of the whole menu. Click here to see the first Foodie review of Roast. Roast is located at 1569 Lexington (between 100 & 101st) in East Harlem, NY.
For all you Dinosaur Rib lovers out there, this is very exciting news. Owner and Pitmaster Sruli Eidelman of Izzy's BBQ is opening up the store next to his at 395 Troy Avenue which will allow for 40 more seats in his restaurant. You knew this was going to happen as the current space can not possibly hold the demand for his bbq. As he has learned in the past when dealing with construction and building, no timetable is set, but this is something big to look forward to.
A small blurry photo of a sign saying "Jerusualem Steak House Express" was posted to the Foodies page last week. It was all that was needed to spark a thread about the new shawarma takeout joint opening on East 9th and Kings Highway in Brooklyn. They are currently setting up the restaurant and should be open for business in the next few weeks. Jerusalem Steak House Express is located at 902 Kings Highway in Brooklyn.
The people asked, and they received. Kasai Kosher Hibachi was re-born from kosher consumers looking for a local, fun hibachi restaurant on our Facebook group. After receiving an overwhelming response for this niche restaurant, the former owner of a hibachi restaurant stepped up and now we are just days away from the soft opening. Great Kosher Restaurants is holding an exclusive tasting at the restaurant tomorrow night where we will be reporting live to our Facebook Foodies Group! Kasai will be opened starting Saturday night with a limited menu. They are located at 2524 Coney Island Avenue. You can make reservations through Kasai's GKRM webpage by clicking here.
After only a few short months in business, the Israeli cafe Mamilla, which was renamed from Tea Two for Lite, has closed. The owner sold the business to the former owner of Cafe Paris in Boro Park who have renamed it the Olive Tree. Stay tuned to the Foodies Facebook Page for real time updates. Olive Tree is located on 2811 Nostrand Avenue, off Kings Highway.
My Grill Bar opened their doors at 1pm on October 20th and by the looks of the menu as well as their founders, it's going to be...your grill bar. My Grill Bar is being opened and run by the owners of Joseph Dream Burger and Retro Grill. They've got all the Israeli classics like Shawarma, Schnitzel and Shish Kabobs in your choice of a Wrap, Pita or Baguette. You can also choose from a variety of homemade Israeli style salads and dressings. Click here to see their full menu. My Grill Bar is located at 1022 Avenue P and is Glatt Kosher/Beit Yosef.
We got a beautiful photo of the set-up for a Sheva Brachos last night in T Fusion Steakhouse's new private room, which is just a few stores down from their main restaurant on Quentin Road and 34th. Click here to see it! The space can hold up to 110 people and you can call the restaurant for any inquires at 718-998-0002. In fact, this is the space where we are having KosherFEAST and a very cool Paint Night there in a few weeks (details are in events section below).
Unfortunately the name change couldn't save this struggling restaurant from closing their doors. A few months ago Brasserie Halevi changed their name and revamped their image to BH Steakhouse. The owners were looking to change up the menu and feel of the restaurant by making it a bit more refined. They had a grand opening party with musician Lazer Lloyd and all seemed to be going well. The restaurant abruptly shut their doors for business over the holidays.
The Five Towns now has their very own smokehouse. Graze Smokehouse officially opened their doors on October 14th to a crowd of hungry Five Town-ers ready to document their bbq experience on our Facebook Foodies Group. The menu, which can be seen by clicking here, is filled with 16 Hour Beef Brisket, Pulled Beef, Smoked Chicken and tons of appetizers like the Chili Truffle Mac & Cheese, Smokehouse Nachos and Smoked BBQ Wings. Graze Smokehouse is located at 529 Central Avenue in Cedarhurst, NY.
We reported back in August on our blog that the new shawarma and hummus bar called Mediterranea will be opening in the Fall. They have confirmed that they will be opening within the next few weeks so keep an eye out. The restaurant will be counter service and fit around 30-40 people. Click here to see photos of the restaurant.

While not yet opened, the set up of this highly anticipated restaurant will be similar to the non-kosher Mexican phenomenon Chipotle. Click here to see the exclusive photos of Salsa Metsuyan located at 192 West Engelwood Avenue in Teaneck, NJ (former location of Royal Persian Grill).
The doors to Blaze BBQ opened up on October 15th in the former location of Fuego (run by the same owners). As you may remember, Fuego moved to the Aventura Waterways, which you can read about here. Blaze BBQ is a casual family style Tex-Mex BBQ restaurant serving specialty burgers and apps like corn dogs, chicken wings and loaded chili fries. Blaze BBQ is located at 2520 NE 186th Street in North Miami Beach, FL 33180.
We got the first photo a few weeks ago of the sign going up and we can now reveal a little more of the new "Rustiko: Artisan Bistro" at 9476 Harding Ave, Surfside, FL 33154 (former location of Ike's Diner). Brought to you by the owners of Fresko and Kosh, click here for pictures of the draft menu and some nice materials. They will be serving pizzas, sandwiches, pastries and more. Opening soon.
The Skyline Grill is a brand new restaurant in Jerusalem located on the top floor of the Jerusalem Gardens Hotel. The restaurant has breathtaking skyline views and a great ambiance. They are currently in their soft opening stage and were offering 50% off of their ENTIRE food menu last week exclusively for our Foodies group members. Stay tuned for more information.
