Restaurant Openings & Updates (3/1/16)

An upscale meat restaurant will be opening on 28th and Madison very soon featuring a star chef! More news is starting to come in as we've just caught a glimpse of the interior design mock up from designer, Natalie Kraiem on her Instagram page. This is one area of Manhattan that can definitely use a kosher restaurant so we're anxiously awaiting the opening. Grand opening is being scheduled in May. Follow the Facebook Foodies page for more information as we get it. Click here to read our full blog post on this new restaurant.
The internet is filled with joy as the new Russ & Daughters Cafe and take out store has officially opened in the Jewish Museum! The cafe is owned by 4th generation Russ family members so you can rest assured it's the real deal. This is the first Russ & Daughters output to be certified kosher and is supervised by National Kosher Supervision. The cafe has many of the options you can find at their original location including a variety of smoked fish, of course, authentic New York bagels, brunch items, desserts and more. The Jewish Museumis located at 1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street.
Crafted Bagels at 676 Amsterdam Avenue between 92nd and 93rd Street will be closing for renovations but they won't be reopening. Instead, Sunflower Cafe will be taking over the space as it re-opens. The expected re-opening will be in about a month or so. This will be Sunflower Cafe's third location to date. They currently have one location in Brooklyn and a second location in Long Island.
Daniel Branover, the owner of Basil Pizza & Wine Bar has his sights set on opening two exciting kosher ventures this summer. We reported over a year ago about 'Meat', Basil's fleishig counterpart which is now on track to open within the next 6 months. The new place 'Bakerie', which will be a marketplace of sorts, is set to open in early summer. It will be an eclectic spot serving "finer baked goods", pastries with Italian and French influences and will also have prepared sandwiches as well as flavored butters and jams. Bakerie is located at 252 Albany Avenue in Crown Heights. h/t
Cork & Slice started their soft opening phase last week in the Five Towns. They describe themselves as a 'Modern Italian Kitchen' and are doing everything possible to ensure that rings true. One way they are accomplishing that is with an authentic $12,000 pasta maker. Guaranteed to make fresh, al dente pastas every time. Along with the fresh pastas, the restaurant is also serving salads, appetizers, pizzas and fish. If that wasn't enough they have a full bar replete with wines, craft beer and cocktails. Click here for exclusive photos of the restaurant from before the opening. Cork & Slice is located at 477 Chestnut Street in Cedarhurst, across from the LIRR.
Monsey residents have a lot to get excited about with the grand opening of
The Mitbach Chef Table restaurant. The Mitbach has an extensive menu with tons of fresh, innovative items to choose from. According to the first reports we've seen, the restaurant is delivering on their promise to bring Chef Table quality meals to diners. Menu favorites so far include the Breakfast All Day, which is a sunny side up egg over a pancake, the Roasted Artichoke Soup with Artichoke Crisps and the Winter Gnocchi with Butternut Squash, Feta, Brown Butter & Herbs. Click here to view the whole menu. The Mitbach is located at 306 East Saddle River Road in Airmont, NY.
We are very sad to report that The Kosher Taco in Lakewood closed their doors earlier this month. Locals have told us that they are upset the restaurant has closed because they will no longer have a late night place to go eat. The Kosher Taco also offered private booth seating to diners which was a huge draw for the restaurant. Amid the sadness of the closing, there is a silver lining. Holy Schnitzel has their sights set on the former taco restaurant and will be opening another location of their famous schnitzel restaurant in it's place. Look out for more updates on that coming to you soon.
Goodbye Acme, Hello Seasons! Seasons
Seasons, the kosher supermarket chain, is opening a 55,000 square foot mega store in the next few months. The mega store will be replacing Acme in the Clifton area of northern New Jersey. This will be Seasons largest supermarket venture, plus they are planning to open in Lakewood and Baltimore soon as well. The CEO of Seasons, Mayer Gold, explained that the supermarket will be serving not only Orthodox Jews who keep kosher but a "broader population as well". Clifton residents recently lost three of their major supermarkets leaving Seasons to fill the void. h/t
The specialty meats restaurant, Harbour Grill Gourmet, is now open just next door to their flagship Harbour Grill restaurant. HGG is serving smoked deli meats, assorted charcuterie as well as a full line of sausages and dry aged meats. Harbour Grill Gourmet will be open during lunch and dinner for take out and is offering Shabbat catering as well. The restaurant will also have a collection of pastrami, corned beef, saucisson sec, pate en croute, duck pate, terrines, chorizo, fresh sausages and dry aged prime meats. Click here for the first photos and menu. Harbour Grill Gourmet is located at 9427 Harding Avenue in Surfside.
It's not uncommon for there to be a line out the door to get into Zak Stern's beloved Bakery on 26th Street in Wynwood. It's also not uncommon for that line to be filled with kippas, tattoos, sheitels and motorcycle helmets. The Bakery has become an attraction for not only kosher patrons but people of all backgrounds. Since the current location is busting out of the seams, Zak the Baker will be moving his bread operation into a 7,000 square foot former art gallery. This will give them all the space they need to churn out their famous freshly made artisanal loaves of bread. As for the original location? Zak has his sights set on a traditional Eastern European Jewish deli style restaurant. Menu items are to include corned beef hash, gravlax, latkes, pastrami sandwiches, gribenes, kugels, yapchik and basically all your childhood favorites. Bubbie better watch out! h/t Miami New Times
