RESTAURANT OPENINGS, CLOSINGS & UPDATES:
MANHATTAN
The Grand Opening of "Koshe Poke" took place on August 16th where foodies and bloggers were invited to try out all new dishes. Poke is a Hawaiian specialty dish, similar to Tartare. The word "poke" means "to slice or cut" referring to the large cuts of fresh fish you would get at an authentic Hawaiian poke place. This particular Poke Bar will be a small installation opening inside of Eden Wok at 43 East 34th Street. They will be serving Poke Bowls, Poke Salads and Poke Burritos. It's a Poke Revolution! (Not to be confused with Pokemon...)
Lox is brought to you by the same owner as the former Lox Cafe in the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side. That space is now occupied by Russ & Daughters only certified kosher location. Although the two places do focus on a heavily Jewish-style menu, they are not affiliated in any way. Lox in the Museum of Jewish Heritage will be featuring twists on the classics, including in-house cured Salmon in flavors like Pastrami-style, Sake Ginger, Grapefruit & Gin, double-smoked and more. You can taste each flavor lox on a platter or try them individually in a sandwich. Lox will also feature traditional pastries and desserts, a variety of Herring and an extensive sandwich selection. Click here to view the full menu. Lox is under OU supervision and is located at 36 Battery Place.
It's official! The Great American Health Bar has been completely re-kashered and is now under the strict supervision of the OK. FLORIDA
It seems like the kosher drought is just about ending in Brickell, Florida. Just a few weeks ago Brickell Kosher Deli opened their doors and now another kosher restaurant has opened up as well. Fresh Break is a certified fully organic restaurant serving Vegetarian items, Sushi, Poke, Katai bowls, Ceviche and Tartare. All of the products they use are 100% organic. Their mission is to bring better, healthier and convenient food to the people of Brickell. Fresh Break is located at 1110 Brickell Avenue. Open from 8:30AM-3:30PM for breakfast and lunch under the supervision of Rabbi David Golowinski.
MASSACHUSETS
It was a sad day last Sunday when the famous Rubin's Kosher Delicatessen closed their doors for good. Many claimed this was the "end of an era". After 88 years in operation, it most certainly feels that way for Brookline residents who have been regulars at the establishment, some throughout their entire lives. Owners Allan and Erica Gellerman were working at the deli full time and have decided to focus on family over business. We wish them all the best.
LAS VEGAS
The iconic Las Vegas old school diner and pharmacy will be closing their doors for a complete remodel and overhaul. According to an article by Vegas Eater, the developer company, Dapper Companies, purchased the entire lot and are upgrading the space to have a uniform facade for all of their tenants. While the actual pharmacy part of Huntridge will remain open even throughout the renovations, we do not yet have word on whether the kosher diner will be resurrected with the remodel as well. One thing is for certain, Huntridge Pharmacy won't have their grand corner entrance any longer.
