Detroit's Soul Cafe- Good for the Body; Good for the Soul

A new cafe to open up for a Pre-Passover Buffet and Beyond
I love to hear about places like this. If you remember, a couple of months ago we profiled a bakery in Maryland that trains workers with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Similarly, Soul Cafe in West Bloomfield, Michigan which is currently in a soft opening phase, will teach adults with special needs the skills of food prep, cooking, hosting and serving. In addition, it will provide life skills opportunities for the 2,500 students from across Metro Detroit who participate annually in Friendship Circle’s Lessons For Life program.
The goal is for the café to provide a mouthwatering kosher menu featuring gourmet soups, salads and sandwiches in a warm and relaxed environment.
Soul Café, which will run from Sunday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, will also have an outdoor dining area with a fireplace that will be available for private party rentals, weather pending.
The cafe is part of the Farber Soul Center, a Project of Friendship Circle. This newest facility will include art studios, a gallery and the café, and will be the home of the new Soul Studio Arts & Culinary Program. The program gives young adults with special needs the opportunity to learn vocational skills, harness their creativity and reveal their talents to the greater community.
The Farber Soul Center is built upon Friendship Circle’s mission of inclusion that uncovers the talents and reveals the soul of each individual. The Soul Center gives young adults with special needs the opportunity to be active, productive and most importantly included members of society.
