Chana's Place, located in the Chabad house in central Tokyo's Takanawa neighborhood, is opening as Tokyo's first kosher restaurant next week. The restaurant was created by Rabbi Mendy Sudakevich, a resident of Tokyo since 2000, and is named after his wife, Chana. The restaurant has 14 indoor seats and another 48 seats in the garden.The new restaurant will serve hummus, shakshuka, different types of eggplant salad and other Israeli dishes and is expected to serve hundreds of Jewish residents from Israel, North America and France in addition the 13,000 Israeli tourists that visit Japan every year.
