Shulamit marcus- 08/02/13

Spoons Flatbush
Sam- 08/02/13

The food is really good here, it is not over stated, perfectly seasoned. The chef clearly understands how to layer flavors. I also really like the ambiance, the staff is knowledgeable and very friendly without being overbearing. It is a place you can an associate to, and feel like you are definitely not going to be embarrassed. i am definitely a fan and return customer, the kind of place you really don't get sick of.

Delicious food items, highly recommended
Victoria Parkinson- 06/12/13

Tonight was my second time at this new Indian Kosher restaurant. I am generally not impressed with the quality of kosher restaurants in NYC, but Shalom Bombay goes above and beyond the others. They are very passionate about the food they prepare and the service they provide. On both visits, they went the extra mile to make sure my experience was pleasant and my food outstanding. So far I have tried the Chicken tikka naan, Tandoori mix kabab and lunch buffet with my friends, both were far better than other kosher NYC restaurants. Prices are very affordable, ranging from $20 to $30 for a beef/lamb or chicken items, they offered lunch buffet $14.95 per person which is also amazing. Shalom Bombay is a Indian Kosher gem in Manhattan. I highly recommend it.

Real Tasty Indian Kosher
Paula Taylor- 06/06/13

If you are in Manhattan and you like Indian food, go to SHALOM BOMBAY! I repeat, go to SHALOM BOMBAY! My mother is the best Indian cook I know, but this place might actually top her cooking. I really love their rich menu, I am a big fan of their Beef Do-Piazza/Madras, Chicken Tikka Kabab. Also, believe it or not they have more than 20 vegetarian dishes. Service was also excellent. We were in Manhattan for 5 days and ate here three days in a row. I am usually reluctant to eat in Indian food out because I feel like it is too Americanized in taste, but SHALOM BOMBAY seems to have the right ingredients for everyone. My husband, who is not of South Asian descent, loved the food there too. We can't wait to go back !!!

Catering Experts
William Hurt- 06/05/13

Shalom Bombay's catered for my 23rd birthday party and I gotta say, the food was the life of the party (thought that was supposed to be me?!)! After searching for months for the perfect catering place that would offer the kind of food I wanted (Indian kosher, a mix of vegetables and meat - comfort food basically) at a price that wasn't going to force my family to take out a second mortgage, my mom found Shalom Bombays's and I couldn't have been happier! Talking to them was super easy and they made me feel really relaxed and comforted about my food and for that because I was already stressed over my head with everything else! All in all, they really helped make my party a success and I am so thankful for his employees. The food was divine, everything from the vegetarian dishes, nans, chicken samosas to the lamb kofta curry was so good. The lamb cofta curry was amazing and was probably my favorite dish! I highly recommend Shalom Bombay's, they're an incredible Indian kosher restaurant with superb customer service and jaw-droppingly good prices!

Quality Service with Tasty and Fresh Food
Matt Brown- 05/30/13

Simply put, Shalom Bombay blew me away. Their meals were always delivered on time and were fresh, warm and tasty. They have many food items to serve you, so you won't have to be the same everyday. I was concerned that it wouldn't be enough food (small portions), but it was exactly the opposite. I live a busy life. I am always trying to stay healthy and Shalom Bombay helps me to reach my goal . I definitely recommend Shalom Bombay for it's excellent service. Long live Shalom Bombay.

Shalom Bombay
Eric Freeman- 05/30/13

Excellent food, great price for lunch buffet (14.95), easy to get a table and takes reservations. Their buffet has tandoori chicken, two vegetable dishes, fresh salads, lentils, basmati rice, various mouthwatering chutneys, skimpy on desserts (which is fine for me for Indian food) and prompt service.. They fill waters fast, come around with tandoori often enough, as well as naan. Their vegetarian dishes are AMAZING. I never order vegetarian dishes when I eat Indian but this place makes a great vegetarian item. The Vegetable Kofta Curry I had the first time was good, and the Baingan Bharta was also great. Overall, for Indian food in an area full of it, I think Shalom Bombay is one of the best.

Orchidea

Last night my husband Jeff and I hosted a Sheva Brachos dinner for our niece and her new husband. We live in the Boston area and had to arrange for this from out of town, over the phone. We did not have unlimited funds but wanted to make a lovely celebration. Ofer and Mazal were so helpful, caring and creative! I knew it would be a nice affair, but when we walked into the restaurant last night, the gorgeous table they had set took our breath away. Beautiful, elegant, sophisticated, but not overdone, it was simply stunning. They even produced the fixed menu on the inside of a beautiful folded card they created with a pretty design and the names of the bride and groom on the front. There was one at each place setting. The service was friendly, professional and attentive. The entire dinner was absolutely delicious!! We started with caesar salad which was tastier than I've had in any Italian restaurant, then came vegetable soup; light and flavorful, followed by tilapia with a light almond cream sauce, fresh vegetables and garlic potatoes, all artfully presented and delicious at the same time. The desserts were simply to die for!! Tiramisu in a chocolate cup and Neopolitan pastry that melted in your mouth. To top it all off, Ofer and Mazal made us all so comfortable, even accommodating our son's desire for a different entree when we could not convince him to try the fish or the penne pasta with vodka sauce. i can't recommend this establishment highly enough, and can't wait for our next trip to Brooklyn and dinner at Orchidea!

Finally somewhere good to grab lunch in midtown. It was delicious, satiating, fresh and filling. I think they will find they need to expand both the space and menu.

We went there to celebrate my daughters birthday. Must say was really impressed with the service and the food. In spite of it being extremely busy the staff was able to navigate and really give us exceptional service. We tried everything on the menu... and "Kudos" to the Chef. a lot of great flavors. Effie ....you have a very calm presence and it really impressed me. The vibe was great....Good music and overall just brilliant. Its my future place to dine in with my family and friends.

I have come here with family, friends and former students and EVERYONE has loved the food and atmosphere. Sharon, the owner is always willing to go out of his way to accommodate everyone's needs. Gotham Burger

I love this restaurant and the people who work there. My only criticism is that both times I have ordered a "medium" hamburger, they have arrived "well-done", which kinda ruins the taste of such good beef.

Pizza Da Solo
Rebecca Kesten- 03/06/13

Thank you so much for opening a kosher pizza store in Midtown Manhattan. You are very smart to do so because there aren't any in this area and there is a great demand for this. I think there should be more variety of salads. Good Luck

Fumio Grill & Sushi
Redeca- 03/06/13

Since the reopening with a new owner and under a the new manager, Abie, they have made Fumio Grill and Sushi my favorite restaurant. There's really no way to describe just how amazing this restaurant is. The menu is exceptionally creative, mixing American cuisine, steak and sushi. The quality of the food is superb and the portions are huge. The short ribs are my favorite The meat was so tender I didn't use my knife once and the flavors were perfect. The service was attentive without being over bearing. This restaurant definitely knows what they're doing and I wish them nothing but success and a long, long, long tenure. Can't wait to go back.

Carlos & Gabby's Queens
Devorah- 03/06/13

I enjoy the food and I can't say anything negative about that although half the time I place an order something is always left out, usually the dipping sauces that are supposed to come with the food, but what I really get annoyed about is the fact that closing time is listed as 11:00 and it should really say 10:20 because many times I have called to place an order for pickup at about 10:15, 10:20 and was told that either the kitchen is already closed or I have to be there in 5 minutes if I want to place an order and pick it up, so really you close at 10:25 not 11:00, please stop advertising false closing times, it is very annoying!

Fumio Grill & Sushi
Sarah- 03/06/13

I have enjoyed the dining experience in Fumio many times, and I haven't regretted it once. Their food is beautifully plated and it tastes even better than it looks. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly.I would definitely recommend you to try it out, and I will be there soon again.

Orchidea
Lisa- 02/13/13

this review is beyond overdue. i've been wanting to write it for the last several months but anyone who's had a colic baby would understand. my experience with orchidea was better than perfect. the owner made me a party that was more beautiful than i could have dreamed it. i had been in the hospital for almost a week and was only able to plan the party via phone. not only did he give me everything that i asked for but he also went out of his way to make me personalized photo favors and decorations i wouldn't have thought of on my own. he reassured me when i had bigger things to worry about at the hospital and executed every one of my wishes and then some. i originally chose orchidea for its beautiful ambiance and incredible food but when i walked into the restaurant that morning, i was blown away. everything was just so beautiful. needless to say, the bris went off without a hitch, the food was delicious and so many of my guests told me they'd never attended a nicer bris in their lives. thank you, ofer...for everything. i'll never forget your kindness, your impeccable taste and i can't wait to work with you again.

Gotham Burger
Eric- 02/13/13

Gotham Burger is the best Kosher restaurant in Teaneck. That is a big statement since there are over two dozen kosher eateries in and around Teaneck. Every item on the GB menu is well crafted and delicious. A consistant product in house and catered. Even their salads make a filling meal. While there is another Teaneck meatier I used to prefer, the prices at Gotham are the icing on the cake.

Upper Crust
Waldman- 02/12/13

The 1st time we were ever there was during the immediate recovery days after Hurricane Sandy. I don't like eating out, but the lack of in home services brought us out to a restaurant. I loved it! It was just what we needed to feel "normal". We knew we were out of place due to no water or functioning services at home. We were not made to feel any different and it was a delicious meal. We have been back several more times since then. Every time it has been just as wonderful as the first time. Thank you for being there, having a lovely staff and providing such natural and delectable food!

What a wonderful place! Food is amazing and the atmosphere is friendly. Staff were very pleasant and the portions of food were great! Safed (Israel) Kosher Restaurants
Laurie Rappeport- 01/21/13

Throughout the '50s and '60s Safed, one of Judaism's four Holy Cities, was known throughout Israel as a bohemian artsy community which did not attract many religiously‐observant visitors. The Artists Colony included many of Israel's greatest artists of the era including Moshe Castel, Yitzhak Frenel, Modechai Levanon, Tziona Tragger and Moshe Rosenthalis. Travelers note that during those years, it was almost impossible to find a kosher restaurant, with any sort of hechsher, in Safed. By the '70s the old artists were no longer able to open their galleries during the summers and the younger, secular Israeli artists preferred to stay in Tel Aviv. The Artist Quarter became populated by religious families, many from English‐speaking countries, as well as new artists who were religiously observant. Today all restaurants and eateries in Safed are kosher. There are plenty of traditional falafel and schwarma spots in the city but there are also a number of unique eateries which can fit any taste and budget.

Isadora Café and Gan Eden Restaurant

The Isadora Café is located in the Artist Quarter near the Khan of the White Donkey. The café is an outdoor coffee shop where patrons can enjoy dairy dishes including soups, sandwiches, burekkas, pastas and salads. Isadora opens during spring, summer and fall by 9:00a.m. and closes in the evenings, approximately 8:00p.m. Isadora Café is a sister‐restaurant to the Gan Eden restaurant which is located on Mt. Cana'an, next to the Cana'an Spa. Gan Eden serves a variety of fish dishes in addition to the dairy menu. Gan Eden has won accolades from several Israeli restaurant reviewers. The two restaurants are owned by the same family and both are under the supervision of the Safed Rabbinute.

HaAri 8

HaAri 8 is located on the ground floor of the Carmel Hotel along HaAri street, the road that skirts the northern border of the Old Jewish Quarter of Safed. The restaurant is small so it can provide patrons with plenty of personal attention. HaAri 8's menu is a meat menu and includes mixed grill, beef steak, lamb shops, goose liver and hamburgers, all of which are served with salads and potatos or chips. Additional menu items include snitzels, kababs, soups, fish and roasted eggplant with tehina. The restaurant has a mehadrin hechsher from the Safed rabbinate.

Lachuch

One of Safed's most popular eateries is a unique take‐out spot located amidst the new galleries on Josef Caro/Shlomo Alkabetz Street. Ronen, a Yemenite Jew, opened his eatery several years ago and it has quickly become a favorite among tourists from many countries. Ronen makes his lachuchs fresh so patrons can choose their fillings. The lachuch is a yeast‐based pancake which is lightly fried in olive oil in a cast‐iron pan with traditional Yemenite spices and herbs along with sliced vegetables and grated Safed goats cheese. The lachuchs can be eaten at the restaurant, either in the back or at one of the tables that are set up out on the street. Alternately, it can be wrapped and taken as a take‐out. Ronen uses all mehadrin products, including the local cheese from the Safed Kadosh dairy.

Kadosh Cheeses

The Kadosh family has been making goats and sheeps‐milk cheeses in Safed for over 100 years, ever since the first family members walked to Safed from Morocco in the early 1900s.

The dairy sells a variety of local cheeses including soft salty Bulgarian and ricotta cheeses harder cheeses such as those marinated in Merlot wine, camembert cheese and kashkaval cheese. They also sell labana (a creamy sour cheese) and yogurt. Most patrons buy the cheeses by the kilo but there are a few tables and chairs in the dairy where visitors can sit and enjoy a "laffa" (large open pita‐like bread) with labana spread over the bread and fillings of different cheeses and side dishes of stuffed grape leaves and home.

Laurie Rappeport has lived in Safed, Israel for over 25 years and worked at the Tourist Information Center in the Old Jewish Quarter for 13 years. She continues to be involved in a wide range of projects which are aimed at bringing visitors to Safed to enjoy the religious, historical, cultural and artistic sites and experiences that the city has to offer. Wolf & Lamb Steakhouse (Brooklyn)
Brooklyn jack- 01/17/13

I've gone here many times. This is a fine dining restaurant which is nice to have in this part of Brooklyn. The manager is always pleasant as is the staff. The food is creative and I'd rate what I ate from good to great. Portion sizes are good. Never have my family or I been dissapointed. You always need a reservation. Surprisingly in 6 visits we never had any problems.

Turquoise
Vi- 01/01/13

The food was very good although a little pricey. My husband and I went with another couple and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For an appetizer I had the Roasted Asparagus topped with parmesan cheese. Although it smelled funky it was actually very good. For the main course I had the Chilean Sea Bass. It was very tasty and perfectly cooked. Their salads were good too. For desert I had the Whiskey Chocolate Mousse cake. It was scrumptious. Worth going back just for that. My husband ordered the Cheese cake which tasted like an Israeli Cheese cake and not something that we are used to. It was light and fluffy though. Overall, we did decide that we would go back there for a special occasion. We would love to go more often but not at Manhatten prices.
