NEW YORK:
BIG RESTAURANT OPENING: "Pizza Al Volo"

The midtown Manhattan pizza war just got hotter. With pizza shops already in the neighborhood including
Bravo Pizza, Lorelli's Pizza, Jerusalem Cafe, Milk n Honey, Circa and Tiberias, the famous but non-kosher Luzzo's in the East Village is opening their first kosher location in a few months at 261 Madison Avenue (between 38th and 39th Street, near Grand Central Terminal), called "Pizza Al Volo." It's a partnership between Michele Iuliano, owner of the Luzzo's Group and real-estate moguls Alex Sapir, Rotem Rosen and Paolo Zampolli. "I'm from Italy and never had in America a pizza like back home until I tried Luzzo's, but I could never enjoy it with my partners who eat only kosher."Luzzo tried to create a kosher version and I fell in love with it and decided to turn it into a big business" Zampolli said, They hope to eventually expand Pizza Al Volo into a chain.

Madonna goes to Prime Bentley for Succos

The NY Post also reported on Thursday that The Material Girl and her 3 kids dined in the succah of The Prime Restaurant at the Bentley Hotel. A spy said "the star's SUV pulled onto the sidewalk at the East Side restaurant, close to a side door so she could sneak in, with her head completely wrapped in the scarf (see photo), which also covered her eyes. They left the SUV on the sidewalk, blocking pedestrians to wait for her return two hours later." She was seen praying and dancing up a storm.
Lamed Vav
The mystically-numbered, Jewish-themed named restaurant will be run by the same owners of a relatively new kosher bakery in Great Neck called Levine's Patiserrie.
Lamed Vav will be located at 20 South Station Plaza. Phone Number (516) 482-3611
Bistro Burger
For all the fans of Bistro Grill and Bistro Deli in Great Neck as well as those who miss Meat Me in Manhattan, the owners are back in Great Neck and will be opening Bistro Burger at 605 Middle Neck Road (former location of King Kosher Pizza which closed in March). They will offer counter service dining during the day, like burgers and sandwiches, with sit-down service in the evening with more formal fish and steak dishes along wine and beer. Target date is in November.
Thank you to Matthew G for the G.N. heads up.
