Looking for as exceptional meal you can’t think up in your kitchen? Look no further than Serengeti Steakhouse for an African inspired steakhouse. Owners Lara and Larry Franks, originally from South Africa, were inspired to share their background with the Baltimore community. The culinary team explores cuisine from all over the African region to bring us dishes infused with the more familiar American classics we know and love. Serengeti is an upscale, eclectic dining experience where patrons can turn to for important business meals, special events, date nights and more. Serengeti gets it’s name from the Serengeti plains located in Central Africa that were rich hunting grounds for generations.
This establishment separated itself from the rest from its inception. The restaurant was designed to meet the needs of the community and in an effort to ensure that they would fulfill this need, a cross section of the community members were invited to vet the menu, service and facility before it opened. The final product was based on their valuable input.
True to the African region, there are variety of chicken and meat dishes prepared with special native flavors. Some of their distinctive dishes include the Curried Chicken Pot Pie served with a side of African yellow rice, the mini Bitlong Bowl of South African Jerky, East African braised chicken, using baby chicken on the bone, slow braised with African spices and the “Sosaties” which is a traditional South African dish with marinated beef skewers on a bed of rice. The Lamb Burger served on a Ciabatta roll with roasted garlic aioli is a consistent favorite.
Be sure to save room for dessert! It is as unique as the meal itself. For a sweet bite you won’t find elsewhere, try the spiced pumpkin bundt cake served with pumpkin mousse and creamy frosting or the apple pie wonton served with parve ice cream and chocolate & caramel drizzle.
With a menu as diversified as Serengeti, you might be intimidated at first but you won’t have to worry with the excellent staff. The service is on point and considerate with great advice that steers you toward choices you’ll love. Best of all, you’ll feel welcome right when you walk through the door.
