The aroma of smoked meat hits you almost as soon as you enter the Mill Basin barbecue restaurant. It’s a familiar fragrance friends of owner Yuda Holtzberg might recall from times hanging out in his backyard, where the new Main House BBQ really began when he would smoke his own meat at home, much to the delight of his friends and family.
Holtzberg took over the restaurant after the original closed, and wanted to bring Yuda’s famous home smoked meats into the equation. While successful they brought in chef Moshe Teitelbaum of Events by T to help bolster the menu and add a touch of creative flair.
Main House 2.0 is a rousing success. The vibe is definitely Brooklyn chill, with a relaxed atmosphere, good food, and plenty of craft beer on tap (seemingly a requirement for any Brooklyn eatery these days). It’s a restaurant where you can kick back, have a drink and indulge in some meat.
On Thursdays Main House has partnered with the boutique Hookah company Hookah Studios to have a weekly event in their heated tent. A great way to unwind after a long week, Main House serves chulent alongside craft flavors of hookah, for a smokey and relaxing experience that gives you the tantalizing taste of shabbat ahead courtesy of the delightful chulent, which mixes southern bbq and the old world flavors of your zaidey. The tent is a great, intimate hang out spot that is sure to become a new favorite of you and your friends whether it is winter (when the heat lamps or on) or the summer when you just need some fresh air. The tent seats around 60 people.
In terms of the menu we recommend you start with the Insane Fries, fried potatoes with parsley and garlic served with chipotle mayo. They may be meatless but they pack a flavorful punch to begin the meal. If you need your meat fix immediately then you cannot go wrong with their Smoked Brisket Cigars, which is smoked meat served in flaky pastry alongside their famous Main House BBQ sauce. If you can handle the heat, try their Main House Ghost Poppers, fried chicken tenders tossed in their Ghostly Hot Sauce. As the menu says “not for the faint of heart.”

The house (no pun intended) speciality is the meats from the smoker. They have barbecue favorites like Smoked Brisket and Dino Ribs, but they also have Smoked Turkey, which unlike some others is delicious and juicy. Not easy to do with a product that often gets dried out. Even if you love your red meat you should give it a try!
If sandwiches are more your speed, then the Long Awaited Bacon Cheese Burger is a must try. It’s a burger, beef bacon, pareve cheese, and garlic sauce. It is a monster burger for big eaters, but darn is it delicious. If you can’t decide what to try the Mixed Meat Sandwich will help, a combination of pastrami, brisket, and baby chicken served with bbq sauce and vegetables.
There are also some daily specials that are worth making sure you are there for. There’s the aforementioned Thursday chulent, as well as meat pizzas that are served only on Saturday nights! These are special combinations of meat, vegetables, and parve cheese served on top of a scrumptious flatbread. Tuesday night is of course taco night with pulled beef and pulled chicken tacos!
