Arba is a modern Israeli restaurant that is dedicated to artisan and natural food, with a focus on fish, cheese, vegetables, and fresh baked bread that everyone can enjoy; since everything on the menu is 100% gluten free. They are a dinner-only dairy restaurant on New York’s Upper West Side. This is also where Modern Bread and Bagel is located, but they are only open until 4pm; Arba opens their doors at 5:30pm with waiter-service. Arba officially opened to the public on May 8th 2019, Yom Ha’atzmaut. When you first walk in your eye is instantly drawn above, where woven basket lampshades from Thailand cast a soft glow on the tabletops. Owners, husband and wife team, Orly Gottesman and Josh Borenstein have a unique story. Orly was driven to develop a gluten free baking product that didn’t compromise on taste to benefit her food-centric husband living with celiac disease. Gottesman and Bernstein partnered with Chef Nir Zook on a recent trip to Israel. Chef Zook discovered his love of cooking at the age of 13 in his family home, a flower and fruit farm, located in a small village in southern Israel. Chef Zook has years of restaurant experience. He recently opened the kosher restaurant Mapu in Tel Aviv and previously had several restaurants in Jaffa, including Cordelia and Noa Bistro. He’s also catered private events large and small, in Israel and the US.
The menu is dreamed up by Chef Nir Zook and is changing weekly, according to the fresh seasonal produce that inspires him. Chef Nir Zook is an award-winning Israeli chef who has opened multiple restaurants, authored numerous cookbooks, and starred in various television programs. Arba is a marriage of vision of both Gottesman and Zook, who see the restaurant as being a space where diners come to relax.
The restaurant offers two options to diners: both a 7 course tasting menu (currently listed at $59/person or $49/person for the vegan option) as well as ordering from the menu a la carte. Their latest menu includes flatbread pizzas (including a vegan one topped with impossible burger meat and baked tahini), handmade pastas, Israeli mezze and dips, fresh salads, a vegan section, and a large variety of fresh fish options. The dessert menu includes fresh donuts served with coffee, chocolate, and caramel sauces, that are fried a la minute! Look for dishes like Branzino with winter greens, Red Snapper with garlic cream and Herb Crusted Salmon, shakshuka, branzino, and an “Israeli ceviche” made with lime-cured halibut. You can also expect a generous assortment of veggie-based starters, hummus, homemade Mediterranean desserts, and specialty hot drinks including Turkish coffee and rose and peanut tea. Diners can also enjoy one of 200 kosher wines, 20 of which will be available by the glass. They have also launched a brand new seasonal cocktail menu with wine and sake cocktails that have been crafted by their sommeliers.
[continued above, right]
Arba is also open every Saturday for a set-menu family style meal by prepaid reservations only from11:00am - 3:00pm for $36 per person (not including gratuity and tax).
This self-described passionate Mediterranean kitchen seriously has something for everyone.
Barbara Aug 16 2016 We have been eating at Chosen Island for years. The service is outstanding and so is the food, whether you eat in or take out. You are greeted like family when you walk in the door and throughout your whole experience. We drive from Brooklyn frequently. That should say it all.

Service was Spectacular as was the view. The wait staff and personnel were VERY ACCOMODATING. Our friend was too cold, they adjusted the air. The music was a bit loud, for me, they turned it off. The atmosphere lent itself to being able to have conversation, comfortably quiet, much appreciated. The dishes we ordered were delicious except for one...VERY PRICY but we spent a wonderful three hours in uninterrupted conversation in a magnificent setting. Barbara Wieder
We come to Chosen Island at least twice a month, from Brooklyn, The food is fresh and delicious. We love the warm welcome we always receive. I am thrilled to be able to find really great Chinese food available to the kosher community.
We were there for dinner on a Tuesday night and by the time we were finishing up our wonderful meal, the restaurant had been filling up with young couples, older couples. a group of bearded and payess-wearing men who were obviously there for the superb food...their various steak dinners were delicious as were the salads and appetizers. My grandchildren inhaled the rolls and spreads, enjoyed the steaks and more so LOVED the beautiful desserts! We will be going back...just wish the prices would come down a bit. NYC atmosphere with NYC prices but Queens has a real gem here.
I read your review of Chateau Steakhouse, which was helpful. I live in Bayside and welcome new restaurants. However, there are no prices listed in the link, and I noticed you mentioned wishing the prices would be lower. Silly question, but, do you remember any prices, just so I could have an idea of their range?? Thank you so much.
BARBARA- 11/04/10 WENT TO ARIEL'S IN ENGLEWOOD. WASWESOME. GOOD VALUE. COULD ACCOMADATE MY SOVEYA EATING PLAN. EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY. CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK.

Carciofi Ristorante 904 Kings Highway
Barbara Wolin- 07/25/08 This restaurant is absolutely terrific. The service is great and the food is out of this world. It's brand new. I've dined there twice. they make their own bread that is so delicious, it could be a meal itself. The food is so fresh and so delicious it could be addictive. We had Veal Marsala, Chicken Francais and Lasagna with eggplant. The Veal and Chicken had a delicate, delicious wine sauce with fresh mushrooms. The vegetable on the side might look everyday, but once you taste it, you'll know they are truly something special. If I had the money, I'd take out a full page ad in the Jewish Press announcing my joy at finally having a restaurant in Brooklyn that is highly satisfactory in every way possible. It's very comfortable as well. Try it. You'll love it.
Reply #1 submitted by: yitzy on 07/30/08 there is another one closer to Atlantic city, its called Jerusalem Restaurant on Ventor Ave (609-822-2266) i have been there a few yrs ago, dunno who the Hecsher is (probably someone unknown) food was ok, but store was very dark & dingy, Owners were very very nice. The one next to the Clarion is called Sharis Steak House (609-272-8822) VEry clean and very good food, i love his BBQ sauce, whenever in that area always stop off there (and very good Hechsher) Highly recommend. (due to lack of al the kosher products up there follow what he recommends rather then the menu). There are no Dairy places in the area.
Reply #2 submitted by: BARBARA ROSE on 07/30/08 We just visited Shari's restaurant-at the Clarion hotel on the 23rd and 24th in Pleasantville N.J..
The food was excellent but it was pricey. The service was excellent and it is nice having a kosher restaurant in A.C.
