ABOUT Charcoal Bar & Grill

It might be out in Los Angeles, but one bite here and you will be transported around the world to Jerusalem.

Los Angeles needed this. A modern, stylish, fine casual Israeli and Mediterranean restaurant. There is really nothing like this in the area and it's the reason why diners have been coming in droves and coming back.

We've heard a lot about them from Lee Fisher and I've been excited to try Chef Lenny's creations since they've been posted. Chef Leonardo Nourafchan, who was born in Italy and has had stints at some of New York's finest kosher restaurants, is one cool cat in the kitchen.

His food reminds us so much of Alenbi, a current take on Middle Eastern food, and he loved and appreciated the comparison. But Charcoal, just a year old, has made its own name for themselves in Los Angeles.

[continued above, right]

We would highly recommend getting a reservation in advance since they book up fast. They have about 14 seats inside, another 10 at their open bar, and another 50 or so outside which runs all long the perimeter of the restaurant.

They have a fantastic lunch special, starting at $16 where you can get this overstuffed lamb in a pita with Fries (3rd photo in). They are also open Saturday nights in the winter so go there for a little post-shabbat dinner.

Some recommendations include the cauliflower, roasted eggplant, Waygu burger, and our favorite, Jerusalem Roast Short Ribs, this is one seriously delicious night out dining al fresco.

If you find yourself missing Eretz Yisroel, go visit Chef Lenny for a taste of home
