Teaneck’s BBQ Paradise, Sender’s Smoke Joint comes courtesy of chef Alexander Remer and co-owner Gabe Gilbert.
Remer has an interesting history, in and outside of the kosher world. Remer has worked for multiple well known kosher establishments such as Le Marais, Levana’s, etc. Steakhouse, and Fireside where he was the head chef for 3 years. Before then Chef Alexander cut his teeth as a short order cook, then as a line cook on a French brigade for chef Mark DiTomassi who took a chance on Remer.
Now in full swing, Sender’s (the name derives from the yiddush version of Alexander) is serving up smokehouse favorites in New Jersey’s kosher Mecca.
They have many of the traditional favorites like Dino Rib and Smoked Brisket, but they also specialize in bbq based sandwiches like the Ziggy which contains fried chicken, maple bourbon brisket, sliced veal, crispy onions, and bacon. They also have great little bites such as duck nuggets (yes you read that right) and the loaded R&B Fries.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the menu is the pizzas. The Sender’s OG Meat Pie is an absolute behemoth of carnivorous delight, topped with a mix of sausage, lamb, beef, crispy beef, shredded salami, mushrooms, and onions. If you have any vegetarians in your party they also have the OG Veggie pie which is a tasty mix of fennel, tomato, spinach, and mushroom.
To end the meal, you have to try one of the Doynuts, which are donuts done gourmet. They have 2 flavors, the Champagne Apple & Berry, which comes with a champagne apple glaze and the Cinnamonnado which is cinnamon sugar, a maple bourbon glazed and garnished with crushed bacon!
