About Tierra Sur
Tierra Sur has long been recognized as one of the most refined kosher restaurants in the country. While its culinary direction has shifted over the years—most notably with the recent transition to Executive Chef Austin Sper—its core identity remains intact: a serious restaurant that happens to be kosher.
The setting is unique. Located inside the Herzog Winery, the dining area is wide open and bright, with a design that leans for elegance and not downtown flash. The location within the vineyard also means that wine is prevalent. Most of the dishes come with a wine recommendation, and the servers are all trained to guide you through Herzog's many options.
Under Chef Sper, the kitchen reflects his experience. Reviews point to the execution of the Lamb, Ribeye Steaks, and even the vegetables as being done with expertise. The Citrus Cured Seabass Tostada is a standout on the menu, a Mid Course choice that remains a fan favorite.
Part of the Tierra Sur journey comes when you check out their Tasting Room, the ideal place for you to really sit down and try out all of the wines that they have to offer (not all at once though).
What diners consistently highlight is the restaurant’s pacing and professionalism. Service is attentive without hovering, and the staff is well-versed in both the food and the wine program. For many, Tierra Sur feels like a destination restaurant, not just a local favorite. It's where people go for anniversaries, for wine tastings that turn into dinners, or just to be reminded that kosher food can reflect the richness of California’s culinary landscape.
