MUTRA Becomes First Kosher Michelin Star Restaurant
Huge news was announced today, May 28. The kosher world has just received its very first Michelin Star, and history has officially been made. A huge congratulations to MUTRA, Chef Raz Shabtai, and the entire staff for this truly groundbreaking accomplishment.
For those unaware, a Michelin Star is considered one of the highest honors a restaurant can receive, awarded by anonymous inspectors of the prestigious Michelin Guide. The award is given to restaurants that demonstrate exceptional cuisine, outstanding technique, and consistent excellence. No other full-time kosher restaurant in the world has ever earned one — until now.
MUTRA is located in North Miami, inside a modest shopping plaza off Northeast 123rd Street. Named for Chef Raz’s beloved grandmother and culinary inspiration, “Mutra” translates to “rain of blessings.” The restaurant draws inspiration from the multicultural food traditions of Jerusalem and the immigrant communities that helped shape the city’s cuisine over generations. Known for its wraparound chef’s counter, seasonal menu, and highly personal approach to hospitality, dining at Mutra feels less like a restaurant visit and more like being invited to an intimate dinner party.
Michelin inspectors praised the restaurant’s hyperlocal philosophy and highlighted standout dishes including its beet preparation with ajo blanco and beetroot sorbet, a signature lamb kebab with smoked eggplant cream and tomato oil, and chicken a la Tunis served with a harissa-studded chickpea tomato stew and couscous.
The award also made MUTRA the only Miami restaurant to receive a new Michelin Star in 2026.
It is worth noting that while there is one other Michelin-starred restaurant with kosher capabilities, Xerta in Spain. That establishment is a primarily non-kosher seafood restaurant that offers a separate kosher kitchen with its own appliances and supervision upon request. It is not a full-time kosher restaurant. MUTRA stands alone as the first and only full-time kosher restaurant in the world to hold a Michelin Star.
