About Bay Cafe
The Bay Cafe started with a phone call to GKR in November 2018. They had been non-kosher when they opened back in 2012, but owner Larisa Aronov recognized that there was a need in the Manhattan Beach area for a kosher café. We put her in touch with the supervision, walked her through the process and it was an overwhelming reaction from our FB group in 2018 that gave them the push to turn kosher.
After that, the gears got rolling. Larisa and her team had a lot of work cut out for them: new vendors, new rules, new hours, but they went in with their eyes wide open and they learned more every day. They soaked up as much information and feedback as they could to apply it all to becoming quality kosher! Bay Cafe opened in March 2019.
The honeymoon year was good but tough and then things got tougher with the pandemic. They decided to close for good and sell their equipment. A chance meeting by veteran chef Albert Bijou and wife Rachel Bana paved the way for a re-opening of Bay months later. Together with Rachel's management, Albert brought his creativity and innovation to the restaurant with seasonal specials and signature dishes and quality service. Cafe has quickly become the go-to place for dairy dining in Brooklyn!
Once a covid-precaution, Bay Cafe now sports an outdoor dining area - painted a cheerful blue and bedecked with flowers and twinkling lights - with a perfect view of Sheepshead Bay. The indoor dining space has a classic, cosy Mediterranean cafe feel.
Bay Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - and is also available for event reservations. They’re focused on the Mediterranean style of preparation for fish, and they offer an assortment of appetizers, pasta and risotto, soups, and salads. Yes, there’s even pizza, although no pizza that you’ve had before - we recommend the Wild Mushroom pizza if you’re looking for something different and delicious. Starters are a great way to get a little bit of everything: the Lasagna Cheese Frittas are a great way to have a taste of pasta while saving room for other entrees, the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl is a great way to start fresh and flavorful, and the BBQ Cauliflower Florets are a hit.
Be sure to ask after the specials (from fish to soup to dessert), because they are bound to be instant favorites!
Bay Cafe continues its tradition of having specials for local teachers and students: Bay Cafe has lunch specials just for you! Keep those minds sharp with good food, and good deals at Bay Cafe.
