About The Humble Toast

Right over the bridge from New York, New Jersey is putting its stamp on Kosher deli with The Humble Toast, a sandwich paradise in Teaneck.

Not satisfied with an average everyday deli slice sandwich, they smoke and cure their own pastrami and corn beef in house, then put that well treated meat into interesting sandwich combinations such as house signature sandwich The Jerry which is the house pastrami combined with coleslaw and remoulade dressing, served on grilled marble rye. The Elaine is the same sandwich but with corned beef. Seinfeld fans might notice a trend here.

The burgers at The Humble Toast are ground fresh daily using a signature meat blend, and are cooked medium well. If you can’t get enough of the Jerry they have a burger version called The Big Jerry which is two patties, the pastrami, fried egg, coleslaw, and remoulade. It’s a major sandwich for major eaters. You also can’t go wrong with the Cali Style which features caramelized onions, pickled jalapenos, house made guacamole, humble sauce and a fried shishito.

Outside of sandwiches they have really fun appetizers and sides such as the Queen Anne Fries. These are potato french fries served with pickled red onion and jalapeno, house pastrami ends, and humble sauce. They’re almost a meal in themselves. You can’t leave The Humble Toast without trying the Bubbie’s Brussel Sprouts, though these are unlike any sprouts my bubby ever made. These brussel sprouts are fried and combined with the house pastrami ends as well as a thyme and honey gastric. Certainly not as healthy as regular old brussel sprouts but double as delicious.
