Pescada (Brooklyn)

Pescada (Brooklyn)

(718) 766-2759

When the owners got the chance to open a restaurant on Ave P between Ocean Parkway and East 5th St in Midwood, they knew that the area would benefit from upscale, expertly cooked Italian cuisine. A few years ago they moved to a bigger location with a party room on Avenue M and Ocean Avenue to accommodate the parties they kept getting.

Their motto is “Kosher fine dining – redefined” which is evidently true when you walk into the spacious, sophisticatedly designed restaurant. A curtain of silver beads cascades from the chandelier, perfectly complimenting the turquoise and shimmering silver interior. The elegance displayed in the restaurant shows up on the plates.

But don’t let the name Pescada fool you. Opened in February 2015, this spacious and brightly decorated restaurant boasts a full Italian menu. While they do have truly excellent fish entrees, the appetizers, pastas, pizzas, salads and delectable desserts certainly hold their own on the menu. The Pumpkin Carpaccio appetizer is already famous – a beautifully plated dish of thinly sliced butternut squash with crushed pistachios, shredded feta cheese, pomegranate seeds, olive oil, sea salt, and topped with micro greens. But the star of the menu is the sixteen-item fish section. The Surprise Salmon, a marinated, seasoned grilled salmon topped with a tropical mango and pineapple salsa is the perfect blend of spicy and sweet.

Pescada’s sophisticated décor, combined with the excellent food, will ensure that it’s one of your new favorite spots for lunch or dinner. It is the perfect place to bring friends, family, and a great place to impress clients. As you comfortably sit and revel in the charmingly sophisticated ambiance and partake in the spectacular cuisine, you will then truly appreciate Pescada’s maxim, “Kosher fine dining – redefined.”

An Elevated Asian Experience in Brooklyn.

Opened in March of 2024 in the heart of Midwood/Flatbush amongst a sea of sushi options, Sautéed set out to bring a more upscale and elegant Asian dining experience to the Brooklyn kosher scene, and they have certainly delivered exactly that. With a menu featuring not only Japanese sushi, but also a wide variety of favorite Chinese dishes, Sautéed has something for everyone, even offering over a dozen different lunch specials on weekdays.

If you’re craving Chinese flavors, start off with the Chicken or Beef Dumplings, either pan-fried or steamed, or the Crispy Vegetable or Pastrami Egg Roll. Spicier options are available (and clearly marked) as well, including the garlic chicken Szechuan Wontons. If you aren’t in the mood for Chinese, there are also some excellent sushi appetizer options, like the Pepper Tuna Tataki or the spicier Yellowtail Jalapeño with fried garlic and yuzu.

Speaking of sushi, Sautéed serves all your favorite rolls, sashimi, and nigiri, including Spicy Tuna, California, Salmon, and Tobiko; but they offer more than half a dozen show-stopping specialty rolls as well. The aptly named Coney Roll features tempura salmon, cucumber, and spicy kani; the Firecracker Roll combines the same spicy kani with avocado, torched salmon, and masago; and the Godzilla Roll mixes up salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with avocado and spicy mayo. Several soups are available, ranging from Japanese Miso to Chinese Egg Drop to heimishe Chicken Noodle.

The entree options at Sautéed are extensive (over four dozen to choose from in all) and encompass all of the New-York-style Chinese classics, including several vegetarian options. Kung Pao Chicken, spicy Mongolian Beef, House Special Lo Mein, Moo Shu Vegetables, General Tso’s Tofu, and Pastrami Fried Rice are all here, as are several favorite “Chef Special” dishes like Sesame Beef and Mango Chicken. Or you can make your entire meal Japanese: Beef or Chicken Teriyaki makes a nice accompaniment to your sushi spread as well.

Sushi Tokyo (Kings Highway)

Sushi Tokyo (Kings Highway)

(718) 434-2444

When Chaim Lipsitz opened his first Sushi Tokyo location in Brooklyn on Coney Island Avenue back in 2008, his goal was to make every person a sushi lover. With many locations, he is well on his way to making that happen.

His current Kings Highway location is a beautifully renovated venue featuring a sleek modern design in black-and-white color scheme with stainless steel, brown and red accents. The contemporary look is further enhanced by a brick wall and full-length windows. Much of the décor has been custom-made, including the rice-enclosed glass tabletops. The seating is a combination of booth-style and bar-height tables with leather chairs and an additional cozy corner booth to accommodate a group of friends. The restaurant is open early and closes late, including on Saturday nights, making it a convenient spot to get a sushi fix at almost any time of day. In the evening the restaurant transforms with a dimly lit, lively vibe. It is a great place for both an informal date night and a family or friends get-together. The top quality of their sushi is a result of using only the highest-grade fresh fish and the superb skills of their sushi chefs. Sushi Tokyo offers all types of sushi and a variety of appetizers.

The starters feature such popular choices as Krispy Kosara (crispy cubes of rice topped with spicy tuna crunch and sauce) and Salmon Tempura Salad (Kani salad base topped with crunchy strips of salmon). The chef special rolls pack a perfect combination of flavors. Try their Lawrence Roll, a true masterpiece, made with tempura black pepper tuna, avocado, and crunch, and topped with spicy salmon, tempura onion and sweet sauce. If you are not a raw fish enthusiast, there are plenty of vegetable and cooked fish choices, as well as soy seaweed and brown rice options to meet every customer’s taste. If you can’t make it to the restaurant, you can have your order delivered in one of their fleet’s smart cars, and you can further save 10% by placing your order online. Sushi Tokyo also provides catering for any affairs offering outstanding custom sushi platters as well as a sushi bar option.

That Coffee Shop

That Coffee Shop

347-997-3088

Situated in the heart of Flatbush, That Coffee Shop is “that” place to go for a perfect cuppa and all-day breakfast. Brought to Brooklyn in 2023 by the same team behind the popular That Sushi Spot and The Canteen restaurants, That Coffee Shop proudly sources all of its hand-selected, freshly harvested, and custom-roasted coffee beans from Irving Farm, an award-winning roastery in upstate New York. Known for their balance and sweetness, the finely tuned house blends at That Coffee Shop make for delightfully approachable and delicious coffee drinks—whether in the classic Cappuccino or Latte, or in a more contemporary application like the Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso, Oreo Frappe, or the iced Cold Brew Caramel Craze with whipped cream and a drizzle of dulce de leche. Throw in a house-made bakery treat like the Oreo Caramel Muffin, Chocolate Croissant, Chocolate Chip Scone, or Cinnamon Bun, and you’ve got a perfectly delicious early-riser jumpstart or mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

Of course, nothing goes better with premium coffee than a delicious breakfast, and That Coffee Shop serves up an out-of-this-world selection of breakfast options all day long. As with the coffee menu, the breakfast menu here ranges from classic to contemporary. Keep it traditional and grab a Bagel with Cream Cheese and/or Egg, an Omelette, Pancakes, or the perfectly puffy Belgian Waffles. Or, for something a bit more adventurous, choose from among the eight different breakfast burritos on offer: the Gaucho Burrito is stuffed with eggs, cheddar cheese, pan-roasted sweet potatoes, hot sauce, sautéed peppers, avocado spread, and roasted tomato salsa; the Greek Burrito is brimming with an egg and feta cheese omelette, hash browns, fresh tomato, red onion, pine nut pesto, and creamy balsamic; the Ziggy Burrito is bursting with egg omelette, sautéed onions, lettuce, pickles, avocado spread, sourdough crunch, and spicy mayo. For a truly customized experience, you can “build your own” burrito or wrap, or make it a sandwich on your choice of brioche bun, baguette, croissant, or multigrain sourdough toast.

In a hurry? That Coffee Shop conveniently offers several grab-and-go options, including a mix-and-match Box of 9 Muffins, a Kale Goat Cheese Avocado Salad, a Quinoa Bowl, and a Greek Feta Wrap. Not in a breakfast mood? That’s no problem either: order some Teriyaki Glazed Baked Salmon, a cup of hot Butternut Squash Sweet Potato Soup, or even Mac & Cheese or Penne Alla Vodka. Trying to feed the whole office? Several menu favorites are available in 9x13” pan or platter sizes, and bagels are available by the dozen. Just looking for a frozen treat? Oh yeah, about “that”: there is also Soft-Serve Ice Cream and Low-Fat Vanilla Yogurt, to be enjoyed on their own or in a milkshake or affogato coffee drink.

Urbana

Urbana

(718) 438-4448

Located off 13th Avenue, in the center of Borough Park, lies a trendy new chef driven restaurant called Urbana, that is worthy of Manhattan. Opened in July of 2016, they are serving upscale, dairy dishes that are not the average. The brick walls, wooden tables and hanging light bulbs provide a dim, romantic lighting to serve a very modern atmosphere.

Since assuming the role of head chef and consultant, Chef Bijou has introduced innovative & seasonal dishes that blend traditional flavors with modern techniques. His contributions have revitalized the restaurant's menu, attracting both new and returning patrons.

They have upheld a unique menu that does not encompass the already done penne ala vodka or baked ziti, the first thing to try are the GOAT CHEESE EGGROLL which are an enticing blend of goat cheese, pesto, roasted sweet potato, red peppers, walnuts, sweet sauce & two house dipping sauces.

SALMON TACOS are another must-try. Gucamole, marinated salmon, mango salsa & topped with a garlic aioli. The TRUFFLE MUSHROOM RAVIOLI is a fan favorite entree, with a creamy mushroom Sauce, each handcrafted ravioli is filled with a ricotta & mushroom filling.

For those who enjoy the Crème de la crème be sure to order the PORCINI MUSHROOM CRUSTED SEA BASS. A select cut of fresh Chilean sea bass grilled over an open fire, then baked with a the porcini mushroom crust for the final stage.

Simple, yet delicious, the Classic Margarita Pizza really stands out. The Fresh Mozzarella, perfectly spiced House Made Tomato Sauce, Basil Chiffonade, and Garlic Oil complement each other very well. Save room for dessert!
The STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING will heighten your enjoyment. This dessert aka sticky date pudding is a classic British dessert consisting of a moist cake made with dates and covered with a brandy toffee sauce.

This beautifully decorated, and rustic restaurant is one of the most charming environments to be in. Reservations should be made, and lunch hours will be available as well. Great food, and a great ambiance will ensure you that Urbana will soon be one of your favorite spots to dine in!

West Wing: Brooklyn

West Wing: Brooklyn

(718) 464-9464

Coney Island Avenue's West Wing has staked its claim in Flatbush as a fast-casual kosher destination to visit. This West Wing location comes from the same one that has been in Woodmere since August of 2018. While that location has been closed for construction, the eventual return is expected with baited breath.

The Brooklyn tone is set by a well-kept facade and clean lines; the decor is described by diners as beautiful and clean, which matches their friendly service. The ambiance gives you something local enough for walk-ins, but also polished enough for your casual night out with friends or family.

When you walk up to the counter, the thing that you notice immediately is the "West Wing" name, written out in pipes. It's the kind of design that tells you quickly that this is a place that makes you feel comfortable, as well as shows the meticulous care that goes into everything they do.

Standing at the forefront of West Wing's menu are the sandwiches. Some of the fan favorites are the Hungry Man Sandwich, the New York Sandwich, and the Smoky Frito. Outside of the sandwiches, people frequent West Wing on Thursday nights to take part in their Chulent Combo special for Leil Shishi.

But of course, every meal needs to start with an appetizer. Frequently ordered are the Spicy Salami Chips, a creative and unique menu item, and the aptly named West Wings. And a hidden gem on the appetizer menu is the Glenlivet BBQ Jerky, a great sharing item to get you excited for what's to come.

Hosting a party can be tough, but catering it with West Wing makes it a breeze. With plenty of different platters and options, you can be sure you'll get a variety to keep all of your party guests fed and satisfied.

In a neighborhood that doesn't have a shortage of Kosher options, West Wing stands out as a focused, comfortable, and fun path. Whatever meat craving you are in, West Wing delivers the exact quencher to fit the mood.

West Wing embraces both convenience and comfort, offering pick-up and free delivery within five miles on orders over $30.

YAKAR Kosher Steakhouse

YAKAR Kosher Steakhouse

(855) 522-2527

Yakar Steakhouse delivers a steakhouse experience that feels deliberately planned. Located on Coney Island Avenue, the restaurant has earned its reputation for treating kosher meat with a level of attention typically reserved for higher-end city dining. It’s not flashy—it’s simply focused on doing things right.

The menu centers around Prime beef, dry-aged in-house in a custom aging room visible from the dining area. Cuts like the Cowboy Ribeye, Delmonico, and skirt steak are finished with precision and arrive rested and sliced. It’s not just about size or sear; the kitchen pays close attention to the texture, seasoning, and presentation. These are steaks designed to be savored.

The kitchen doesn’t stop at steaks. Braised brisket risotto, beef tongue, and crispy sweetbreads round out a set of composed plates. Even appetizers like the house-made charcuterie board, served with bresaola, salami, crostini, and mustard seeds are balanced and thoughtfully arranged. It’s the kind of spread that doesn’t just fill a table, it sets a tone.

The space strikes the right mood for what’s served. Exposed brick, clean lines, warm wood, and white tablecloths keep it upscale. Lighting is low enough for a date night, but service is sharp enough for a business dinner. A private room tucked away from the main floor is available for small events, and is often used for celebrations or family gatherings.

Drinks are a quiet strength here. The cocktail list shows an attention to detail that matches all areas of service. Drinks like the Vico Rico or Raging Bull offer good balance, and the wine list includes both easy-drinking bottles and more structured picks for pairing with heavier mains.

Portions are as precise as they come. Desserts like the molten chocolate soufflé with house-made ice cream offer a clean and light finish without pulling focus from the meal. It’s the kind of place where you don’t feel the need to rush or overorder.

Yakar doesn’t rely on novelty or theatrics. It doesn’t need to. What it offers instead is clear: aged beef, well-executed dishes, and a dining room that respects the food being served. For kosher diners looking for a polished steakhouse experience that respects both technique and tradition, Yakar sets a steady standard.

Soups play a significant role in the menu, with choices such as Yemenite Meat Soup, Koobeh Soup, and Bean Soup. While the restaurant maintains a casual dining atmosphere, service is described as efficient, ensuring that everyone that comes to enjoy the food is served as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality.
