Fish Grill: Brooklyn

Fish Grill: Brooklyn

718-747-8099

Fish Grill Finally Brings Fresh, Fast, and Sustainable Fish to Brooklyn.

Already a beloved institution in Los Angeles for over a decade and in Lakewood for almost five years, your favorite neighborhood fish restaurant Fish Grill has now opened its newest outpost in Brooklyn! Just like its sister locations, the Brooklyn (Midwood/Flatbush) location of Fish Grill, opened in February of 2024, offers a fully sustainably sourced menu of the most delicious, fresh-caught fish, served “boatside to tableside” in a fun, friendly, casual atmosphere.

As should come as no surprise, Fish Grill is serious about, well, grilled fish, and they take care to ensure that everything they serve is not only the highest-quality and most flavorful fish available, but also that it is responsibly sourced. Each variety of fish on the menu is either wild-caught or sourced from sustainable, environmentally friendly farms, with the menu itself clearly indicating which is which. From Sea Bass to Tilapia and everything in between, all of the available varieties of fish, plus a wild-caught “Catch of the Day,” are available as a mesquite-grilled entree, served with your choice of two classic sides, including coleslaw, rice pilaf, baked potato, and fries.

Of course, Fish Grill does a lot more with its supply of fresh fish than just grill it. The wild-caught North Atlantic Pollock can be made into grilled or fried Fish Tacos, a grilled or fried Fish Sandwich, or the ever-popular and perfectly crispy Fish & Chips. The farmed Salmon can also be made into tacos or a sandwich, but it can also be put into a Wrap or on a Salad or used as the base for a delicious and healthy Asian-style Poke Bowl, loaded up with your personalized choices of rice, toppings, and sauces; the Salmon also makes an appearance in the Fish Grill Salmon Pasta. The wild-caught Ahi Tuna is another sandwich, salad, or poke bowl option, and the farmed Trout is available deep-fried, Southern Style, served with fries and slaw.

Traditional tuna salad and smoked salmon are also available, as are several entirely fish-less dishes, including a Veggie Wrap, Greek Salad, and four classic Pastas. To bulk up your meal or as a stand-alone snack, all of the side dishes, as well as a Manhattan-style chowder, Chips with Salsa or Guacamole, Red Herring, and even a single fish taco or piece of fried fish are also available a la carte. No matter what you order, you will receive the perfectly delicious food and the friendly, courteous, and attentive service that all the Fish Grill locations are famous for, in a clean, cozy, and comfortable space right in the heart of Brooklyn.

Glatt Mart

Glatt Mart

(718) 338-4040
In 1977, Mendy Bauman revolutionized the kosher butcher shop concept in Brooklyn with his innovative idea of a self-serve butcher. Back in the 70s, Brooklynites would go to their local kosher butcher, and he would hack off a slab of meat for them. Nothing was pre-sliced, prepackaged, or pre-priced. Mendy changed all that with his butcher shop Glatt Mart. Over four decades later, Glatt Mart is a successful kosher grocery store with a bakery and butcher section. Mendy’s son Dov grew up in the store; he was seven when Glatt Mart opened, and now he owns it.
When Glatt Mart expanded to a grocery store in the 80s, they ensured they paid the same care and attention to kashrus and quality that they had been paying to their meats. A mashgiach on the premises checks certain produce items, such as lettuce, parsley, cilantro, scallions, leaks, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower. The fish is sourced from Ossies, and while salmon is very popular, people were also pleased with the choice to make pre-prepared sushi available for customers.
In 2017, Glatt Mart renovated and added a bakery section. The bakery items are sourced from Glicks, and some of the bakery items are made on the premises. The freshly baked challahs are very popular come Shabbos. There’s a glass showcase with over 20 different varieties of pre-prepared meals and pre-seasoned meats; It’s perfect for during the weak when you don’t have the energy to cook. However, if you want to cook, that option is there too with their grocery section. Each section has weekly specials, making items affordable despite the high quality. They also cater events and offer delivery.
Other items are available, but Glatt Mart still specializes in high-quality kosher meat. Still the innovators, they were offering kosher charcuterie and jerky before it was cool. Salami, pastrami, and even kielbasa is available in the deli section. Manager Ira Sina runs the butcher department, which still gets its meat from the same small Star K shechita in Baltimore that Mendy sourced his meat from all those years ago. Glatt Mart prides itself on making sure their meat selection is the highest level of kashrus; people trust Glatt Mart’s meat for all the right reasons. If they get a popular rib steak, lamb, veal, or poultry from Glatt Mart, they know it will come out just right.
Glatt Mart was the first kosher supermarket in Flatbush to get self-checkout. Dov took out one register and was able to add four self-checkout stations. So far, people love it! It makes shopping easy because people can get in and out quickly.
Mendy couldn’t have known back in 1977 that Glatt Mart would become what it is today, but if he did, he would be proud, and rightfully so. The kashrus and quality have never faltered, and the store continues to be as innovative as it was in the 70s.

Holy Schnitzel: Avenue U

Holy Schnitzel: Avenue U

(718) 627-4659

Holy Schnitzel in each of their locations greet their customers the same friendly and warm way. The chain was started by a brother and sister team Ofeer & Sivan Benaltaba, who opened two other successful locations in Staten Island (in 2008) and the Five Towns (2011). And in 2013, Holy Schnitzel brought their time-tested recipes and variety of schnitzels (breaded chicken cutlets) to Avenue U in Brooklyn. Drawing families for a good lunch or dinner, there is something for everyone with additional healthier alternatives on the menu.

The restaurant offers starters such as buffalo chicken fingers, falafels, and the most ‘craved’ about, Popcorn Chicken with a side of buffalo, sweet chili, or honey BBQ. Health watchers can create their own salad with choice four free toppings, different kinds of lettuces and dressings. To simplify things, you can choose the Healthy Delight or the Avocado Salad. New to the exciting menu is the Steak Egg Roll (London broiled pastrami, sautéed mushrooms, garlic mayo in a Teriyaki sauce). For a great wrap, the "Shwanitzel Wrap" brings you a mix of shwarma, schnitzel and fries with ketchup and BBQ sauce.

Be sure to try some of their many signature dishes, including: "The Tony Special" a baguette topped with marinated grilled chicken, sautéed onions, peppers, garlic mayo, jalapeno mayo, and spicy mayo; or "The Kung Fu Schnitzel" an Asian inspired baguette, includes sesame and panko breaded schnitzel lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sautéed onion and sauce. You can also get extraordinary burgers like the Double Decker (two 6 oz patties of ground beef on a sesame seed bun) or a Pastrami Burger (6 oz patty with grilled pastrami, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and “Holy Sauce”).

At Holy Schnitzel you can be guaranteed a pleasant experience for your family. Kids can always have their back-to-school specials as you enjoy the lunch and dinner specials. You even can enjoy Holy Schnitzel at home, with take-out, online ordering for free delivery, or catering.

Holy Schnitzel: Borough Park

Holy Schnitzel: Borough Park

(929) 565-4659

Holy Schnitzel manages to take the art of Schnitzel to the next level - and is popping up everywhere. After their success with a Staten Island location, in October 2021, brothers Eric and Tamir Shabat plus friend Ben Gevili opened a location in Borough Park, Brooklyn. They have since added another in Roseland, New Jersey.

The Borough Park location has a new modern feel. Like its predecessors, it provides fast food that is kosher and affordable. However, unlike other Holy Schnitzels, the food comes to you. The kitchen is in the back instead of the front, and the food is brought out to your table, so no tip is necessary  but it's a step up from waiting at the counter.

Fast food may be fast, but at Holy Schnitzel it is all about fresh. The food is not precooked but prepared fresh for the customers. Leftovers do not get reheated and sold the next day. Suppose a customer orders The Holy Toasty, a fan favorite for example (crispy cornflake chicken topped with grilled pastrami on a flat toasted baguette with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sautéed onions with honey mustard and holy sauce). In that case, the chicken will be fried right then and there.

Other popular dishes include the popcorn chicken, the shawarma, and the loaded brisket fries (BBQ pulled brisket loaded over French fries topped with Jalapeno mayo). Customers can order all of those and more without breaking the bank. Their weekly lunch specials, available during the week from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. are a full meal. The priciest, chicken sandwich with fries and a can of soda, is only $16.99, and two hot dogs with fries and a soda is only $10.99!

The Shabat brothers brought Holy Schnitzel to Borough Park because the community was in need of affordable, quality, fast food fare. Now, that option is there, and parties of nearly twenty can spend less than $300 on a meal without holding back. There's no reason not to get everything that appeals on the menu. They have everything from deep-fried dishes to healthy grilled chicken with salad, all for reasonable prices. They also offer delivery and catering, while still remaining under budget.

While the ambiance sets this location apart, it's still the Holy Schnitzel we've come to love. No matter where you find them, Holy Schnitzel abides by their motto: "Do everything from the heart and give people what you would want. Give 110% with everything you do and serve, no cutting corners." Those are some "holy" words to live by. Amen!

Izzy’s Smokehouse: Brooklyn

Izzy’s Smokehouse: Brooklyn

347-425-0524

Open since the summer of 2015, Izzy’s BBQ boldly made its mark on the map as New York City’s first Kosher Smokehouse. Stepping inside Sruli “Izzy” Eidelman’s unassuming Brooklyn storefront is like stepping inside an aromatic, warm and cozy food haven. With its clean and simple décor, you quickly realize and appreciate that this place is all about the food. And boy, that food! Go ahead and get your hands dirty – this food begs to be devoured with abandon. The mood is laid-back, intimate and jovial and will ensure this spot soon becomes one of your favorite places to meet up with close friends to kick back with a craft beer and some serious Texas Style BBQ.

Sruli Eidelman, a 29-year-old Brooklynite who’s always had a passion for food decided to open Izzy’s after much prodding by friends to turn his hobby of BBQ into an actual business. His mentor and inspiration was Texas-born Ari White, dubbed The Brisket King by the NY times food critics and the Food Network and Sruli won the 2017 title himself. Sruli uses his smoker on basically everything, relying on a 24-hour crew to help supervise the fire. The beef, lamb, and poultry are smoking over oak and cherry woods for most of a day.

Sruli is front and center slicing and weighing out the meats directly in front of your eyes and salivating, dropped jaw. The ginormous "Dino Rib" covered in a massive chunk of beef and the brisket are the stars of the show. Tender meat with salt and pepper bark might change your perspective on life forever – or at least your relationship with beef. You will fall madly in love. The fried chicken sandwich is another stunner – it’s smoked, then marinated and fried in house batter, topped with sriracha lime sauce, horseradish mayo and pickles in a toasted pretzel bun. The sweet and spicy smoked chicken wings are another MUST. One bite of the pulled beef and you’ll be sold for a few orders of tacos and sandwiches. Don’t overlook the classics on the menu such as the burger or the mashed potatoes. The burger raises the bar of juicy and flavorful burgers.

If you’re looking for subtle flavors, you’ve come to the wrong place. My advice is to go with friends and split everything on the menu. Come hungry and in your stretchiest pants.

La Sova

(718) 676-9005

La Sova has built a reputation as a reliable destination for high-quality kosher takeout and catering. With a menu that blends classic flavors with creative combinations, the restaurant, located on East 13th Street in Brooklyn, offers a variety of meat-based dishes, salads, and dips designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Whether customers are stopping in for a quick meal or ordering for a larger gathering, La Sova provides an assortment of freshly prepared options.

La Sova is co-owned by Amnon Dabah and Yonatan Suliman-Zada, both of whom are also the chefs. Amnon has been in the culinary field for 15 years, having owned and operated a Mexican food truck where he mastered street food, and working in various other kitchens. He has a passion for delivering flavor packed food that are authentic, and he brings that to La Sova's kitchen.

Yonatan carries his 12 years of culinary experience into his cooking and ownership as well. Starting his journey at the age of 15, he worked at takeout kitchens where he learned to handle fast-paced and high volume cooking. His passion for food has evolved past just cooking, moving into crafting a story with the food that brings people together and gives a memorable food experience.

The sandwich selection at La Sova is one of its main attractions. The Ribeye Steak Sandwich, served on a hero roll with sautéed peppers and onions, is often highlighted for its rich flavors and tender meat. Another customers favorite is the Banh Mi, a twist on the traditional Vietnamese banh mi, featuring marinated grilled baby chicken with pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and sriracha mayo on a toasted baguette.

They are always updating the menu, and recently added the signature sandwiches: the Sova Supreme and The Kofta. The Sova Supreme includes southern fried baby chicken, grilled pastrami, grilled salami, chumus, fried eggplant, purple slaw, and jalamango tango sauce, on a 10” toasted sourdough chiabata hero. The Kofta is packed with juicy Kufta Kabobs, Hummus, Sumac red onions, Lettuce, Tehina and our signature Jalamango tango Sauce served on a 10" sourdough ciabatta Baguette.

For those looking for a non-sandwich option, La Sova’s grilled flatbread pizzas, known as meat pizzas, have been well received. The Brizza, topped with smoked brisket, barbecue sauce, cripy onions, and a lemon crema drizzle, has been particularly noted for its balance of smoky and tangy flavors. The Mizza, featuring a combination of brisket, corned beef, pastrami, diced grilled salami, caramelized onions, and honey mustard aioli drizzle, provides a hearty, savory bite. Another unique option is the Shwizza, which incorporates baby chicken shawarma, chopped Belgian fries, hummus, tehina, and amba, offering a fusion of Mediterranean and street-food flavors.

To round out the meal, La Sova also offers a selection of salads and rice bowls. From the classic grilled chicken Caesar salad to unique salads such as the Banh Mi Salad, Chipotle Lime Chicken salad, and the Shawarma Salad all delivering bold flavors. The rice bowls are also a great way to stay healthy and feel satiated with options like the Burrito bowl, Banh Mi bowl, and the Shawarma Bowl.

For their takeout, La Sova's frequent Shabbos options have been a major hit. With options including Charcuterie Boards, Mazza Platters, main dishes, fishes, the list goes on for you to take a break from Shabbos cooking. They even offer larger platters and tins for Shabbos catering, perfect for your Kiddush Club.

MEAT NY

MEAT NY

516-888-1730‬

Forget pretentious fine dining – MEAT in Crown Heights throws a Brooklyn bash for your taste buds! Opened in March of 2023 with the promise of delivering both a “truly decadent dining experience” and craft cocktails that “elevate mixology to an art form,” MEAT made an instant, refreshing splash on the Brooklyn kosher scene. Imagine: chic brownstone vibes meet sleek marble and killer cocktails in a bar buzzing with energy. Feeling fancy? Snag a seat in the private ivy-adorned haven (because, why not?).

The atmosphere at MEAT is unbelievable, but the true star here is the food. Dive into Mediterranean delights with a modern twist: start off with the “Tour of Italy” Artisan Olive Oil Tasting, with three selections from the length of the peninsula, served with a selection of fresh-baked breads. Or try the Carciofi alla Romana, a dish of artichokes seared Roman-style and served with a sauce of red onions, mint, white wine, and lemon.

For a meatier Italian appetizer, opt for the Lamb Shoulder Carpaccio or the Gran Tagliere, a board loaded up with all of MEAT’s house-made salumi varieties, plus an assortment of pickles, condiments, fruit, bread, and olives. The Lamb Tongue, featuring seasonal chicory greens, black truffle, and three-minute egg, is another great starter that showcases MEAT’s unconventional culinary artistry.

Don’t skip the pasta course! The Agnolotti — pillowy pockets of fresh pasta filled with beef cheek and squab liver and kissed with black truffle — and the Bucatini Amatriciana — tossed with house-made guanciale, fresh tomato, and vegan pecorino — are each worth a trip to MEAT all by themselves, and the Tagliatelle with asparagus and house-made pancetta is a masterpiece of simplicity.

For the main course, MEAT truly covers the full range of its namesake protein. There are exquisite beef options, of course; the Hanger Steak is bedecked with yellow foot chanterelles, potato pave, charred onions, and bone marrow sugo, while the pepper-crusted and charred Beef Tongue is accompanied by fagioli misti, a bright salsa verde, and house-pickled red onions. The Short Rib, featuring potato puree, crispy fried onions, and a decadent mixed mushroom and bone marrow brodo, is a signature favorite. Also available are thick-cut Lamb Chops, served with with creamy polenta, balsamic cippolini, pepperonata, and lamb sausage. More traditional steak options, like wet- or dry-aged bone-in ribeye and a dry-aged tomahawk are available from the restaurant’s impressive Aging Room.

But MEAT is hardly just another kosher steakhouse. Here, the fowl and fish get just as much detailed attention as the beef and lamb. The Duck combines both seared breast and confit leg with a grilled peach agrodolce and summer squash barlotto, while the whole roasted Squab is served atop candied root vegetables, roasted sunchokes, and a foie sugo. The Chicken Torchon is familiar yet elevated, featuring charred Hudson Valley corn, house-made pancetta lardons, seared fingerling potatoes, and an earthy black truffle vinaigrette. And the whole Salt-Baked Branzino for Two is stuffed with herbs and citrus, accompanied by broccoli rabe, and filleted table side.

The flavor odyssey continues at the bar, where MEAT’s talented mixologists serve up signature creations like the Ginnie in a Bottle — featuring Hendrick’s Gin, raspberry puree, lemon, and egg white — and the 505 — a spicy-sweet mix of Casamigos Blanco Tequila, mezcal, honey, and lemon chili pepper. These are absolute pros with a seemingly endless supply of creativity, so there are always new concoctions to try. And Tuesday night is even Ladies’ Night, where ladies drink free with purchase of an entree, making for a perfect opportunity to order something other than your usual favorite.

As promised when it opened last year, MEAT isn't just a meal; it's an experience. Savor Brooklyn's rich history woven into a vibrant culinary tapestry. The exposed brick walls whisper tales of the borough's past, while the modern décor and lively atmosphere celebrate its present. The friendly staff adds to the warmth, ensuring your visit is filled with laughter and good company, perhaps over a glass of expertly paired wine or one of the best handcrafted cocktails you’ve ever had.

o ditch the boring routine and treat yourself – your taste buds will be singing! Don't forget to snap drool-worthy pics to make everyone jealous, but be warned: they might just book their next trip to Brooklyn just for a taste of MEAT!

Mozzarella

Mozzarella

917-633-6770

Mozzarella is a highly apropos name for a restaurant that serves up cheesy goodness in almost every bite. The owner, Yossi, is an Israeli native who crafted the restaurant’s menu to highlight Mediterranean, Italian, and Middle-Eastern brunch cuisines. For the full waiter service restaurant with an ample party room that can seat up to sixty, manager Yitzy Chriqui maintains a casual yet classy ambience that makes Mozzarella a great place to bring a date, a business partner, or just anyone looking to enjoy an excellent meal.

Mozzarella’s Signature Egg Roll, Rolex Replica Watches a decadently deep-fried bite of feta, cream cheese, mushroom, roasted eggplant, parsley, cranberries, and pesto, already has its legion of dedicated fans. Another fan-favorite dish is the Four Cheese Pizza, a personal pie topped with marinara sauce, parmesan, ricotta, feta, and of course, mozzarella cheese. Fitting in with the Italian theme is the restaurant’s lauded Spaghetti di Palermo, a spaghetti dish featuring the house pomodoro sauce, black olives, red onions, and tomatoes, as well as the Stuffed Artichoke appetizer of artichoke hearts stuffed with ricotta, spinach, fried onions, and, once again, mozzarella.

For those looking to lighten up, the café has some diet friendly options as well. Health-conscious diners love the Avocado Salad loaded with romaine hearts, spinach, avocado, sun-dried tomato, roasted peppers, cucumber, feta, and a choice of house dressings. Although forgoing the dairy at a café aptly named Mozzarella may seem foolish to some, for those wanting to forgo the cheese entirely, the Moroccan Sea Bass packs a protein-filled punch with its beet infused tomato stew, served with grilled jalapeno, toasted bread, side salad, and tahini. Another cheese-free lunchtime classic is the Fish Arais, a pita pocket stuffed with house-marinated ground whitefish, served with a side of tahini and a garden salad.

Mozzarella offers a wide selection of drinks from sharp Italian espressos to refreshing Strawberry Mojitos and Limonanas to the Israeli classic milky Mekupelet chocolate drink. Mozzarella delivers throughout the Crown Heights neighborhood and is now on Uber Eats, so a delicious and decadently cheesy meal is only ever a few minutes away.

My Grill Bar

My Grill Bar

718-975-7272

Say shalom to My Grill Bar. This Israeli grill is serving up the classic dishes that will transport you right to the beaches of Tel Aviv. Brought to you by owner Elico Aranyas and the talented team behind such restaurants as Retro Grill. My Grill Bar’s menu is familiar but the flavors are out of this world.

You can never go wrong with a nice juicy shawarma. Personally, I like mine in a laffa with a good amount of hummus, Israeli salad, and of course french fries. At My Grill Bar, they have two types of shawarma for you to enjoy, the first is a delightful mix of Turkey and Lamb, a house specialty that is often found back in Israel. If chicken is more your speed, they also have baby chicken shawarma available.

For red meat fans you have to try their Kofta Kebab, which is a nice blend of lamb and beef that can be served on a platter or in the bread of your choice (baguette, pita, laffa). You can also get a great burger regular or spicy!

For vegetarians (and Israeli food fans) they have tasty falafel that you can get in a hummus bowl platter or in a sandwich.

For a great Israeli meal in Brooklyn, you can trust My Grill Bar. They have online ordering for delivery so you don’t even need to leave your house to enjoy!
